Roundtable Discussions With Business Leaders in the District

On Monday I joined Congressman Kenny Marchant and Congressman Marc Veasey at the Irving Chamber Congressional Roundtable to discuss important issues facing the North Texas business community. We had a robust conversation on our efforts to secure the border, the effects of ObamaCare, Social Security reform, and a variety of other issues. I always enjoy talking through important issues with fellow Members of Congress from Texas and I believe that our discussion helped North Texans learn more about our views and work on these critical policy issues.

Unleash the Energy Entrepreneurs!

A headline that wind power requires 700 times the land space to produce the same amount of energy than fracked produced natural gas grabbed my attention. This headline sums up the problem with much of the alternative sources of energy: namely the juice equation doesn’t exist when compared to the fossil fuels and shows that we are far from replacing Natural gas, coal or oil when it comes to energy in the next few years Read more about Unleash the Energy Entrepreneurs!

Obama Adds Texas National Guard Troops to the Border – Just Like Texas

Issues:

President Obama is following the lead of Texas Governor Rick Perry by deploying more federalized troops from the Texas National Guard (TNG) to help Border Patrol Agents. Approximately 60-75 soldiers of the Texas National Guard were recently federalized under a Title 32 drug interdiction program and were deployed to the Rio-Grande Sector of the Texas/Mexico Border. TexasGOPVote Blogger Endorsements: Ten Reasons Why I Support Allen Weh for United States Senate

Issues:

Dear friends,

Please excuse this rare, personal pitch for another candidate.

As you all know, the United States Senate is vital to maintaining the integrity and sovereignty of the United States of America. Barack Obama’s agenda is one that is inconsistent with the values of conservatives like you and me.

This year we conservatives have a real good chance at picking up several Senate seats. The chances are so great that the other party is worried, real worried. Thus, I think the question really becomes,

Stack of 350 Bills Stuck in the Senate

There are currently over 350 bills that have passed the House of Representatives but remain stuck in the Senate. The House has taken action and passed good legislation to address important issues facing our country from energy to job creation, but the process is stalled in the Senate where these bills still sit on Senator Reid’s desk collecting dust. The country’s many issues cannot be addressed if one chamber simply refuses to do its job. Read more about Stack of 350 Bills Stuck in the Senate

The Fiscal Impact of Immigration

Issues:

The fiscal impact of immigration — how immigrants and their descendants affect government budgets — is a widely debated and contentious issue. Economists overwhelmingly accept the economic gains of immigration, but are less certain about immigrants’ impact on government budgets. Contention over this issue is fueled by the numerous methodologies and complexity of analysis that obscure the fiscal costs of immigration. Read more about The Fiscal Impact of Immigration

The Death of James Foley

Last night, ISIS militants released a video to the world showing the barbaric execution of American journalist James Foley. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. This gang of extremists shows no sign of slowing down their murderous rampage. The goal of ISIS is to grow their terrorist army and indiscriminately kill everyone else in sight. Negotiating with them is not an option. In just a few short months they have grown from a band of thugs to an army tens of thousands strong.

Republican Party of Texas: We Stand With Rick Perry

Issues:

Republican Party of Texas: Following his booking Tuesday, Governor Perry called the prosecution a "chilling restraint on the right to free speech," and he vowed to prevail in the case, saying, "This indictment is fundamentally a political act that seeks to achieve at the courthouse what could not be achieved at the ballot box." Gubernatorial Nominee Greg Abbott at Cordillera Ranch

Issues:

Cordillera Ranch was the scene for a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial nominee Greg Abbott on August 12th. Abbott spoke to a room full of supporters eager to hear his message. His speech was short and to the point. He needs our support if we want to continue to have the success that Texas has and is enjoying. He reminded us that Texas is #1 in job creation, in energy production, in farms, and when he is elected, he will work to make Texas #1 in education. He reiterated that Obama has abandoned securing our border and that Texas will do what the federal government has failed to do…secure the border. Everything you need to know about Rick Perry's indictment

Issues:

As you may have heard by now, a grand jury on Friday indicted Governor Rick Perry on two felony accounts of abuse of power. The first charge, abuse of official capacity, is a first-degree felony that carries a potential punishment of five to 99 years in prison. The second charge, coercion of a public servant, is a third-degree felony that carries a potential punishment of two to ten years in prison.
