Demanding Answers for our Veterans

Our nation’s veterans have sacrificed to keep America safe, and we owe them not just our gratitude, but the best possible care. Recent allegations that VA healthcare employees in Arizona and Colorado falsified records to mask delays in treating patients are of deep concern. But it seems this problem isn’t localized to just Arizona and Colorado, as reports of delays and cover-ups are now surfacing across the nation – even in Texas.

I’m demanding immediate action to stop this mismanagement before more veterans’ lives are put at risk. I’ve sent a letter to the VA’s Inspector General urging him to investigate misconduct at three VA clinics in Texas: in San Antonio, Waco, and Austin.

DFW radio stations stop airing "defamatory" ads from Texas Right to Life in Deuell race

Issues:

The following article originally appeared on The Quorum Report and was republished with permission.

The brawl for Sen. Bob Deuell’s seat in East Texas is getting nastier by the minute, it seems, with Tea Party leaders accusing the incumbent of misleading the media and Deuell’s attorneys convincing radio stations in the Metroplex to stop airing what they called “defamatory" advertisements paid for by Texas Right to Life. "They took ‘em down and the lawyers are talking," Deuell said on Thursday afternoon. “Hopefully they’ll keep those ads off the radio because they were just egregious,” he said.

Gun Control Advocate: “Arming Women is NOT the Answer to Stopping Sexual Assault”

Issues:

The organization “Safe Campus” in Colorado is pushing for a November ballot initiative to BAN concealed carry on the state's college campuses.

The group’s founder, Ken Toltz says “arming more women to fight the growing epidemic of sexual assaults on campus is not the way to go.”

According to Toltz, “The statistics are really worrisome about how prevalent sexual assault is on college campuses.

The Palestinian Authority has not fulfilled its obligations

Issues:

The most recent collapse of the tedious and tiresome diplomatic kabuki theater commonly known as the Israeli- Palestinian peace process was wholly predictable.

Once again Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has demonstrated that he is not prepared to make any real compromises for peace. On the contrary, while Israel was making efforts to advance the negotiations with the Palestinians while putting up with the usual US pressure, Abbas signed a pact with Hamas. Rick Perry Endorses Sid Miller

Issues:

Rick Perry announced his endorsement for Sid Miller in the race for Texas Agriculture Commissioner. Endorsements from Governor Perry have been very rare during the 2014 Republican Primary season. During the Primary Election, Perry only endorsed four incumbent judges, he had previously appointed, and one candidate for the Texas State House, Jake Ellzey, a close personal friend. Tags:

Today is Armed Forces Day and I hope we can all take a moment to say "thank you" to our veterans, to our active duty members, and to their families.

Write a note, make a call, or shake the hand of someone you know who has served. And take the time to pause and reflect on the great sacrifices millions of men and women have made throughout our nation’s history. Read more about Sen. Cruz on Armed Forces Day: Honor and Thank Those Who Serve

Interview: Utah Sheriff Stands Up to BLM

Last weekend, Recapture Canyon, Utah, was the stage for a new confrontation between the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and those who would like to see the federal government reduce its holdings of federal land. San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman was organizing a protest against the BLM’s actions in Recapture Canyon, and members of various militia groups headed to stand by them in support in case the BLM overreacted like they did in Nevada in April. Senator Cornyn Responds To Shinseki Testimony

Issues:

Yesterday, I responded to Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s refusal to commit to firing those responsible should recent reports of neglect, deception and gross mismanagement be confirmed by an agency-wide audit:

Contrary to the Secretary’s dismissive attitude, the VA will not continue to operate in no-man’s land and there will be consequences if these reports are found to be true. Read more about Senator Cornyn Responds To Shinseki Testimony

Congressman Poe Responds To Report Of Iran Providing Chlorine Gas Canisters To The Assad Regime

Issues:

If reports that Iran is sending Chlorine gas canisters to the Assad regime in Syria are accurate, it reaffirms concerns that the Iranians will go to any lengths to protect their puppet in Damascus. There is already strong evidence that Assad has used chlorine gas against his own population, a gross human rights violation that is being actively facilitated by the Iranians.

My Subcommittee has already held three hearings on the threat from Iran. It’s clear that the Iranian nuclear program is only one small part of their global terror campaign which includes
