Final Report from United Nations Climate Change Conference in Warsaw, Poland

The UNFCCC meeting in Warsaw, Poland, is finished! Great strides were made toward its stated purpose, a “complete transformation of the economic structure of the world.”

The U.S. caved to both funding schemes: “loss and damages” and to a deadline for commitments to the Green Climate Fund.

An international mechanism called the “Warsaw international mechanism for loss and damage” was created and work on funding is to begin next year. Read more about Final Report from United Nations Climate Change Conference in Warsaw, Poland

Iran Still Wants Nukes

Issues:

The world was reminded the other day why Iran should not get a nuclear weapon--it would be a constant threat to Israel.

In a rally in Iran, the Supreme Leader denounced Israel as "untouchable rabid dogs. He then went on to talk about Irans nuclear program.

On the same day that negotiators met in Geneva, the Supreme Leader said that Iran will not back down one iota. He vowed that Iranians would slap the aggressors in the face in a way that they would not forget.

We cannot change the Iranians philosophy of hate, but we can change their actions. They must be forced to stop nuclear weapon development with tougher sanctions.

Congress Introduces Comprehensive Bipartisan Legislation To Combat Human Trafficking

Representatives Ted Poe (R-TX), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Kay Granger (R-TX), Rick Nolan (D-MN), and Candice Miller (R-MI) along with Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.

The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (H.R. 3530) would boost support for and protection of victims

Auschwitz and Birkenau Picture Tour

Issues:

I am attending the UNFCCC in Warsaw. As it is a 2 week long meeting, the weekend between is an opportunity to do sightseeing. I took a train to Krakow last weekend and Auschwitz is a bus ride from there. I've been to the Holocaust museums in Jerusalem and Washington, DC, but this museum surpassed both. It was a tragic reminder of our past. We must never let this history be repeated.

Abortion – The Positive Side of Wendy Davis’ Attempted Changes to the Definitions in the Abortion Argument

Issues:

A couple of weeks ago, Wendy Davis announced at a campaign stop at the University of Texas that she is “Pro-Life.” She went on to say that her definition of “Pro-Life” had to do with the feeding and educating of the children that had been already born. She went on to say that she cared about life and that she has a record for fighting for life. Then, in the same breath, she said that she was fighting for and going to continue

Barry Smitherman is ONLY Texas AG Candidate with CHL - Most Trusted on Gun Rights

Issues:

Barry Smitherman is the ONLY candidate in the Texas Attorney General race with a Concealed Handgun License (CHL). The fact that Barry Smitherman actually packs heat, on top of the fact that he got an A+ rating in 2012 from the National Rifle Association (NRA), is why I believe that Barry Smitherman is clearly the best gun rights Texas AG candidate over Ken Paxton and Dan Branch. Anyone can talk a good talk about supporting gun rights, but Barry Smitherman actually practices his right to bear arms.

Flood Insurance Reform: What Congress is Doing and How You Can Get Involved

With our extensive bayou system and the Gulf Coast located just a half hour from our great city, Houstonians know the importance of having flood insurance to protect their property. The number and costs of claims for storm after storm have exhausted the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) resources, and recent storms like Hurricane Sandy have drained the program of cash. As a result, Congress passed the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act to increase the accuracy of flood risk assessment and the mapping of hurricane and coastal storm areas.

Will Cooler Heads Prevail?

Cool temperatures in Warsaw, Poland, were not enough to keep tempers from flaring at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Stalled talks on a new “loss and damages” funding scheme led to a walkout by China, plus 132 poor countries with less than two days left to negotiate. “Loss and damages” was added at last year’s meeting in Doha, Qatar, that would require rich nations to pay poor nations reparations for storms like the recent typhoon in the Philippines, based upon the false belief that climate change is due to greenhouse gas emissions. Houston Passes Anti-Wage Theft Ordinance

Issues:

The City of Houston has taken a bold step forward by passing an ordinance that will properly punish companies that commit wage theft and payroll fraud by stealing from their employees. After a public hearing on Tuesday, the council voted on Wednesday to adopt the ordinance becoming Texas' first city to take such an action.

Proof that Your Parental Rights are Vanishing

Elizabeth Stone once said, "Making the decision to have a child-it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." I would tend to agree with that statement. I am a mother of three children, and they are my world; they are my heart. Most parents would go to the ends of the earth to protect their children if that's what it took. Read more about Proof that Your Parental Rights are Vanishing
