Tom Pauken's Farewell as Texas Workforce Commissioner

Issues:

For the past five years, I’ve had the honor of representing you as Commissioner Representing Employers at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). As many of you know, I’m leaving the Workforce Commission this month, but I will still remain involved in public affairs and support policies to encourage employment opportunities and private sector job creation.

As I leave TWC, I am particularly proud of the rediscovery of the importance of vocational education in providing good job opportunities for young Texans and in meeting the demand for skilled workers in our state.

Sen. Campbell Files Bill to Stop Vote Poaching/Fraud and Stop Dead People Voting in San Antonio, TX

Texas has a Vote Poaching problem. Ballots and votes are being stolen. Voter Fraud is real. State Senator Donna Campbell has filed a bill (SB 554) to stop the voter fraud and to stop dead people from voting in San Antonio, TX.

San Antonio, TX seems to be ground zero for this problem. Texas Conservative Republican Hispanic Weston Martinez uncovered just the tip of an iceberg last year.

Congressman Smith Statement Regarding Sequestration Cuts

Issues:

I am disappointed that President Obama allowed sequester cuts to take effect. His decision places partisan politics above the best interests of the American people. The cuts are regrettable, but were avoidable. House Republicans twice passed legislation that would have avoided sequestration cuts. The Senate has not passed a single bill to avoid the cuts. And despite the fact that the sequester was the President’s idea, he hasn’t proposed any specific spending cuts to help avert sequestration. Instead, the President demands more tax hikes to continue funding his Administration’s spending spree. Read more about Congressman Smith Statement Regarding Sequestration Cuts

Poe Hails Reauthorization Of Violence Against Women Act

Issues:

I issued the following statement reacting to the House passage of S. 47, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, which includes the SAFER Act of 2013, a bipartisan bill that I introduced with Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY). Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) introduced SAFER in the Senate. The SAFER Act reallocates existing funds to help law enforcement process approximately 400,000 untested rape kits.

I am pleased that the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act is finally headed to the President’s desk. This bill addresses the plight of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking,

Senator Cornyn: White House’s Sequester Substitute Raises Deficit

Issues:

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the White House backed bill would actually raise the deficit this year by tens of billions of dollars.

Its absolutely ludicrous, especially when we consider that even with the sequester, spending will still be higher this year than it was last year, by the federal government. Read more about Senator Cornyn: White House’s Sequester Substitute Raises Deficit

Celebrating Political Diversity During Black History Month Meet Author and Blogger Karen Watson

Issues:

Black History month in America was designed to remember the important events, history and contributions of blacks in America. The author’s goal is to be sure that the accomplishments and bravery of some conservative blacks are included in the celebration.

Casinos, Gambling and the Politics of Envy

Issues:

If you want to see the problems of our economic woes, take a simple look at a recent vote in Cedar Rapids on allowing a casino. This is a battle royale of dueling casinos protecting their local monopoly against further competition, while local activists are miffed that the proposed casino in Cedar Rapids is not providing their community with enough free goodies. Obama Administration Releases Criminal Illegal Aliens in Advance of Sequestration - Incompetence or Propaganda?

Has ICE initiated a new catch and release programThis week the Obama Administration released illegal immigrants who were being held in custody pending deportation hearings in advance of the looming sequestration. Is this just another propaganda move to put pressure on Congress to act? Or is it yet another example of the sheer incompetence of this Administration. Remember, no budgets have been cut as of this time. Even after the sequestration, there is no cut to the federal budget, only a cut to the rate of increase of the budget. So why are they releasing prisoners from jail? Read more about Obama Administration Releases Criminal Illegal Aliens in Advance of Sequestration - Incompetence or Propaganda?

Celebrating Political Diversity During Black History Month: Meet Scott Turner

Issues:

This is the second in a short series of articles designed to offer balance in our celebration of black history month, by honoring a few black conservatives who are making a difference.

Meet Scott Turner, a first term Republican Texas State Representative, representing District 33 which encompasses all of Rockwall and parts of Collin counties. I interviewed Scott over this past weekend, to hear about life in Texas’ 83rd legislative session, and to find out more about this soft-spoken, confident yet humble, successful man.
