Culberson Calls for Creation of a Select Committee to Fully Investigate the Benghazi Terrorist Attacks

Today, I joined Rep. Frank Wolf and nine of our colleagues in introducing a bill to establish a House Select Committee on the Terrorist Attack in Benghazi.

Eighty-four days have passed since the attack, and the administration has told the American people very little about the murder of four Americans in Benghazi. This select committee will investigate the terrorist attacks and determine what should be done to improve diplomatic security.

The Select Committee would be comprised of the chairman and ranking member of each committee of jurisdiction – Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, Armed Services and Oversight and Government Reform – as well as five additional Republicans appointed by the Speaker and two additional Democrats appointed by the Minority Leader.

Administration officials have failed to produce an accurate account of what really happened in Benghazi. The administration has provided conflicting information and has clouded the investigative process. A select committee will help coordinate investigations among the various committees of jurisdiction and ensure that the American people get answers about what happened on September 11.
