A “License to Kill” Eagles?

A single California windmill farm is whacking about 70 Golden Eagles per year, according to the L.A. Times. Under the endangered species laws, these killings are punishable by fines of $250,000.00 each and prison terms of up to two years each.

It has been discovered that massive budget-busting subsidies to windmill farms are also subsidizing the killing of endangered species.

Groups such as the Sierra Club are rightly outraged that there have been exactly zero prosecutions for dead eagles or any other of the approximately 10,000 mostly endangered (now dead) raptors and other birds from just a single California wind turbine farm each year. In environmental terms, this is the worst ongoing and government promoted disaster in human history.

Do you know the percentage of our energy supply that is generated from wind machines? Exactly zero percent when rounded to whole numbers. After at least three decades of government life-support, we are harvesting under ½ of 1% of energy needs from this unreliable, and now deadly, boondoggle.

It seems that there are in-favor and out-of-favor groups within the environmental movement that helped propel the Dems into power in 2008. The current administration, with its increasingly selective enforcement and non-enforcement of laws, is now showing the “Chicago way” is in play even against their allies1. The administration has clearly decided that when it comes to eagles vs. campaign contributors (GE or Solyndra, et.al.), the eagles are expendable.

1For those unfamiliar with the stunning amount of corruption in Chicago, we invite you to read the short article on Chicago-land corruption in the WSJ. The article (which originated in The Economist, a Keynesian liberal magazine from across the pond, reports on how Chicago is the corruption capital of America. 4 of 7 recent governors CONVICTED. “Our Governors Make License Plates” is becoming the Illinois state motto. Fully one-third all Chicago aldermen have been CONVICTED. The article goes on to say that "…since [1976], 1,828 elected officials, appointees, government employees and a few private individuals have been convicted of corruption in Illinois, and 84% of these were in its Northern District—a judicial zone which contains the entire Chicago metropolitan area."
