Funding the Government in 2014

Congress is also working on legislation to fund the government. The current funding expires on January 15, so we have a relatively short timeline. The budget deal that passed in December set the numbers for this spending bill—the legislation we’re working on now determines how that money is allocated among federal agencies.

Normally, funding decisions are made through appropriations bills.

Republicans Need to Embrace Young, Energetic Leaders

Issues:

Maybe I am just saying this because I am young, but the Republican Party of Texas needs young, energetic leaders. I truly believe that one of the biggest problems that the Republican Party faces is we are not attracting enough new young leaders. Not only are we missing out on drawing in young voters, but we are also not allowing fresh faces in to help revive the Party. The Texas Republican Party Platform is in favor of term limits and so am I. Many long-time Republicans in office now are good people, but after being in office for so long, it is easy to get complacent and compromise. This is where electing younger, energetic Republicans will benefit the Republican Party. Read more about Republicans Need to Embrace Young, Energetic Leaders

Congressman Pete Sessions Responds to President Obama’s Speech

As Chairman of the House Rules Committee, I released the following statement in response to President Obama’s call today for an extension of emergency unemployment insurance:

If President Obama is serious about helping the American people get back to work, he would have used his speech today to call on the Senate to approve the dozens of pro-growth jobs bills passed by the House

Immigration and the Texas Economy - We Must Fix Immigration Laws to Sustain Economic Growth in Texas

Immigration - Texas EconomyMuch of the growth of the American and Texas economies, and even innovation for that matter, comes for the immigrants who find their way here to make a better life for themselves and their families. The net positive is that this also makes for a better quality of life for all Americans. Texas is growing, and it is growing rapidly. Texas Governor Rick Perry has often stated that over a thousand people a day are moving to Texas from other states. That growth creates a demand for labor.

LOL at the Bill of Rights?

Last February 14th, 18-year-old Justin River Carter made a comment during an argument with a few acquaintances on Facebook that would shock most people, but I doubt that many people would take his hyperbole seriously enough to feel threatened: Read more about LOL at the Bill of Rights?

Video: New Year, Same Blame Game

Issues:

I released the following video on President Obama and Senate Democrats’ latest round of the blame game. It’s transparent that this is a political exercise, not a real effort to try to fix this problem.

The following are must-read books for fellow conservatives for ideas and understanding of today’s world and where to move from here.

America 3.0 by James Bennett and Michael Lotus: This book deals with the development of America including past European influences. There are several points made by the author. The first is that our emphasis on the nuclear family was instrumental to our development and important to our future progress. Bennett and Lotus review how America went from a decentralized small Republican government and agricultural state (America 1.0) to a more centralized and larger government, which they view as coming to an end to be replaced with a more decentralized America 3.0. They have reviewed our history in a unique way and they’ve designed new policy

My 'Dances with Zapatista Wannabes': 20 Years of Resistance

The current Zapatista uprising in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas marked its 20th anniversary this past week. Media outlets across the world covered the date, with far-left outlets and blogs celebrating their Zapatista heroes.

The uprising is recognized as officially beginning on New Year’s Day, 1994, when rebels springing from indigenous peoples stormed a municipal palace in San Cristobal de las Casas. The EZLN, more commonly
