Dems Think Government is Responsible for Your Success

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is a political committee devoted to maintaining and increasing the 239-member Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

President Obama this past weekend made the bizarre and shocking claim that small business owners aren’t responsible for the success of their small businesses — the government is:

OBAMA TO ENTREPRENEURS: “IF YOU’VE GOT A BUSINESS—YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT. SOMEBODY ELSE MADE THAT HAPPEN.”(Kerry Picket, “Picket: (Video) Obama: ‘If You’ve Got a Business—You Didn’t Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen,” The Washington Times, 7/15/2012)

LAST WEEK: OBAMA CLAIMS HIS PROPOSED TAX HIKES WILL SOMEHOW “ENCOURAGE BUSINESSES TO START UP AND CREATE JOBS”: “We need policies that grow and strengthen the middle class -- policies that help create jobs, that make education and training more affordable, that encourage businesses to start up and create jobs right here in the United States. So that’s why I believe it’s time to let the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans -- folks like myself -- to expire.” (“Remarks by the President on Extending Tax Cuts for Middle-Class Families,” The White House, 7/9/2012)

It’s no surprise then that Obama and his fellow Democrats want to raise taxes on small businesses in a tough economy in order to fuel the Democrats’ spending addiction. After all, the government should reap the reward of its own success, right?:

The fact is employers and folks who work for small businesses are desperately trying to stay afloat in a weak economy burdened by job-destroying regulations and Democrat tax hike proposals that will make it harder for small businesses to hire new workers:

EVEN OBAMA SAID RAISING TAXES IN A WEAK ECONOMY WOULD BE DISASTROUS:

OBAMA IN DEC. 2010: TAX INCREASE “WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLOW TO OUR ECONOMY JUST AS WE’RE CLIMBING OUT OF A DEVASTATING RECESSION”: “…tax rates for every American were poised to automatically increase on January 1st… would have been a blow to our economy just as we’re climbing out of a devastating recession.” (President Obama, Remarks At Bill Signing, 12/17/10)

OBAMA IN NOV. 2010: “IF WE ALLOW THESE TAXES TO GO UP… THE ECONOMY WOULD GROW LESS”: “If we allow these taxes to go up, the result would be that a lot of people most likely would spend less, and that means that the economy would grow less.” (“Remarks by the President and Vice President to Chrysler Plant Workers in Kokomo, Indiana,” The White House, 11/23/10)

ANOTHER BROKEN OBAMA PROMISE: “YOU DON’T RAISE TAXES IN A RECESSION.”(“Obama: We Must ‘Help Elkhart Reinvent Itself,’” MSNBC, 8/5/09)

BUT DEMOCRATS’ JOB-DESTROYING POLICIES ARE ALREADY MAKING LIFE DIFFICULT FOR SMALL BUSINESS:

NFIB STUDY: 150K SMALL BUSINESS JOBS COULD BE DESTROYED BY OBAMACARE’S HEALTH INSURANCE TAX: (“NFIB Research Foundation Study: Health Insurance Tax to Cost 125,000 to 249,000 Private-Sector Jobs,” NFIB, 11/9/2011)

NEW STUDY: AT LEAST 14,500 JOBS OR AS MANY AS 47,000 JOBS COULD BE DESTROYED BY OBAMACARE’S HEART ATTACK TAX: (Michael Ramlet, Robert Book and Han Zhong, “The Economic Impact of the Medical Device Tax,” American Action Forum, 6/4/2012)

13,303 SMALL- TO MEDIUM-SIZE MEDICAL DEVICE FIRMS IN U.S., OR 91% OF ALL MEDICAL DEVICE COMPANIES COULD BE AFFECTED: (Michael Ramlet, Robert Book and Han Zhong, “The Economic Impact of the Medical Device Tax,” American Action Forum, 6/4/2012)

AT LAST COUNT, OBAMACARE REGULATIONS AT 5,931 PAGES: (David Hogberg, “ObamaCare’s 5,931 Pages of Regulations,” Investor’s Business Daily, 3/23/2012)

INTERNATIONAL FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION: “3.2 MILLION JOBS AT FRANCHISE BUSINESSES CONTINUE TO BE PUT AT RISK”: “…the law is unworkable, unaffordable and wrong for our country's small business owners who continue to struggle in a still sluggish economic climate… 3.2 million jobs at franchise businesses continue to be put at risk due to the employer mandate provision, thereby discouraging and disincentivizing the creation of new jobs and business expansion.” (“High Court Ruling Puts Jobs at Franchise Businesses at Risk,” International Franchise Association, 6/28/2012)

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS: OBAMACARE IS “RESULTING IN JOB LOSS AND CLOSED BUSINESSES”: “…small-business owners are going to face an onslaught of taxes and mandates, resulting in job loss and closed businesses. We will continue to fight for the repeal…” (“Supreme Court Ruling Limits Freedom, Strengthens Government,” National Federation Of Independent Business, 6/28/2012)

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHAIN RESTAURANTS: OBAMACARE “WOULD DO SIGNIFICANT HARM TO JOB GROWTH AND THE ECONOMY”: “…the law would do significant harm to job growth and the economy… Many chains have indicated they will have no choice but to cut back on workers’ hours or close restaurants in order to avoid the penalties.” (“Chain Restaurant Industry Laments Supreme Court Decision,” National Council Of Chain Restaurants, 6/28/2012)

CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE: OBAMACARE TO DESTROY 800,000 JOBS: QUESTION: “…that means that in your estimation, the health care law would reduce employment by 800,000 in 2021; is that correct?” DOUGLAS ELMENDORF, CBO Director: “Yes.” (Remarks from Douglas Elmendorf, House Budget Committee Hearing, 2/10/2011)
