Obama Keystone Veto Threat Cause For Whiplash

I made the following remarks today in response to President Barack Obama’s promise to veto a bill with bipartisan support that would authorize construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The veto threat comes only weeks after the President committed to working with the new Congress.

Listening to President Obama you could almost get whiplash. On one hand he said he wants to work with the new Republican majority in the House and the Senate; on the other hand, as the Majority Leader has pointed out, he’s issuing premature veto threats before the legislation that he says he’s going to veto has even been voted out of committee or considered by the Senate and the House.

The most important thing that I think we learned out of this last election was the American people want us to work together to try to solve problems and help make their life better.
