Sessions Votes to Provide Flexibility for the 21st Century Workforce

As Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, I recently released the following statement in support of a measure to allow private-sector employers to offer employees the choice of paid time off in lieu of cash wages for overtime hours worked:

Our work force has changed dramatically over the years. Whether employees are balancing a full time position while attending school or a single parent is working two jobs to provide for their children, the needs of our workforce have evolved. As our workforce changes so must our laws that protect and govern them.

Currently, only public sector employees have the ability to choose paid time off instead of cash wages as compensation for working overtime hours.  Employees in both the public and private sector should have the same opportunities to balance their work and personal obligations.  It is time that we overhaul this outdated law to provide all members of the 21st century workforce the flexibility they need and deserve.
