Culberson Statement on Passage of Initial Hurricane Harvey Disaster Supplemental Appropriations Bill

After passage of the initial Hurricane Harvey disaster supplemental appropriations bill, I released the following statement.

The Harvey disaster supplemental appropriations bill provides $7.4 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund and $450 million for the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program. This funding is essential to begin the rebuilding process across the Gulf Coast. Many Texans are still displaced from their homes, and others have lost everything. This emergency funding is a down payment to continue life-saving services, and it allows FEMA to continue providing disaster assistance for those who qualify.

I am grateful that House leadership has moved so quickly on this initial supplemental bill. I’d also like to thank the first responders and volunteers who traveled across the country to help Texans when they needed it most.

I am committed to working with Speaker Ryan and Chairman Frelinghuysen to provide additional funding to assist Texas with rebuilding and to help improve flood mitigation projects to prevent future disasters.
