NFL’s Questionable Patriotism

Our monuments have been under condemnation and the present ultimate insult, attacking our very core of patriotism: our America flag and National Anthem.   Will we escape unscathed?  Will we stand up and fight the good fight or will we just whimper and die a slow death?

This avalanche of flag burning, removing statues and desecrating our Star Spangled Banner has been on a slow burner for at least 50 years or more.  These acts are not new to the American people; what is new is the soaring pace and destructive path it has taken.   So why haven’t we been able to stop this?  Because so many Americans are apathetic while many more feel powerless.  But when the American public decides it has had enough, then, we will experience what freedom really means.   We need courage to change the things we can!  Freedom comes with responsibilities and consequences and so many seem to forget this.

 

A few days before the NFL players showed their true colors, bright yellow, Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC sent out its 2^nd installment of their Adventure series on September 18, 2017.  It was a video from the Smithsonian narrated by Damion Thomas, Curator at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on ‘The Power of Sport’.   Thomas explained why the Sports Gallery is so important to the Black community and why he chose the statue at the entrance.   A statue dedicated to Black Power of the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City portraying two black athletes protesting the inequality of the black athlete.   

 

Olympic winners Tommie Smith and Juan Carlos held their fists in the air thinking that it was the right place and time to stand in defiance to black poverty and the lynching of blacks that were prevalent in the South before desegregation.  This chapter in our American history is blight on our past and according to Dinesh D’Souza in his latest book ‘The Big Lie’, it has been the Democrats that have been the strongest in opposing legislation: the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Bill of 1968.   These acts and affirmative action have significantly changed how the African American is treated.  

 

Fast forward 50 years since the 1968 Olympics and Thomas states in his 2017 video that this moment of the 1968 Olympics “is perhaps the best example of the way sports can be used to intervene in these larger conversations.”  He goes on to say that he wants to, “Not merely to celebrate sports but to situate sports in these larger political struggles.”  What exactly is he speaking of, what political struggles?  Thomas mentions the African American ‘Freedom Struggle’.  Why do these millionaire NFL players feel that they deserve more?

If the Smithsonian curator really wanted to bring the African American to the present, a statue of someone like Doug Williams, the first African American to win in a Super Bowl, should be at the entrance.  If the NFL players really want to stop oppression, than they should understand that the black families are broken and condemn the black players who father a child but are not fathers to them.  In an article I found doing research, The Top 10 Athletes with the Most Illegitimate Children, written in 2010 in Spike.com, lists the top 5 NFL players and NBA lists 4 players with the most illegitimate off-spring.   These cowards are the ultimate oppressors; most leave the children and women to the welfare system! http://www.spike.com/articles/q1nho0/the-top-10-athletes-with-the-most-i...

Do the NFL owners, managers, coaches and players even know why they are taking a knee?  They definitely were not united as to why they were arm in arm at the NFL games.  What seems apparent is the NFL’s lack of allegiance to America.   They absolutely have no clue what the National Anthem means to the patriotic American.   Their transparent ignorance was in full evidence on Sunday, September 27 in a nation already divided, this last Sunday’s taking a knee only polarized the situation further.    

Colin Kaepernick is credited for taking a knee on September 1, 2016, stating, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."  Kaepernick made reference to the Black Lives Matter movement which has had a great influence on him.  Thomas the curator at the Smithsonian sport museum is adding Kaepernick’s ‘football items’ to the Black Lives Matter collection.  This deliberate elevation of BLM is in itself a mockery to the men and women who put their lives on the line.

If tearing down our monuments and taking a knee is really about racism as Kaepernick believes than why do the blacks dominate sports?   Our music industry bleeds with black musicians and why is it that Hollywood can’t seem to make a movie without a black actor?   Americans elected and then reelected a black president. At the national level there have been black US Attorney Generals, Secretaries of State, and countless congressmen.  Presently there is a Supreme Court Justice and a HUD Secretary.  There are innumerable elected officials at the local level.  And still these millionaire NFL players feel ‘oppressed’?  If these cowardly NFL players want to make a difference, than they should walk in the shoes of a police officer or a maimed veteran.  Instead they cry for more money for their drug abuse, their DWI’s.  I have no pity for these weaklings.   And neither should every patriotic American.

If the patriotic American does not stand up for what is right, than expect to see statues like these to litter our cities in the future!  Already a statue of Ray Lewis outside the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, is being petitioned to be removed.  Lewis who was listed as having 6 children with multiple women in 2010 is an oppressor of the worse kind and refused to stand for the national anthem to show respect for our country should not be honored by a monument!   If the NFL players continue to kneel for ‘political struggles’, than expect to pay ‘reparations’ even if your family did not own slaves.  

President Trump voiced his strong opinion on the NBA players, Golden State Warriors, that he invited and then uninvited to the White House on September 23.   NFL teams’ demonstration of taking a knee is not fit to watch.  We see only unpatriotic millionaire whiners and generally basic contempt for President Trump.   The liberal players and owners have tried to make it about the president but ultimately, it is respecting our country and the men and women in our military who made it possible for us to be free.  Apparently these overpaid self-righteous narcissist players believe they rule.  NFL season holders need to tell them that it is the American public that ‘buys’ tickets to their games that they are accountable to.   As for the Smithsonian are they pandering to the progressives?  Maybe it’s time to stop the donations.
