Sessions Applauds Passage of Bill to Strengthen the Doctor - Physician Relationship

I released the following statement applauding the passage of his bill, H.R. 1492, Medical Controlled Substances Transportation Act:

After years of hard work, I am delighted that the House passed this important measure to support mobile physicians and the millions of Americans who rely upon their essential services. Under current law, physicians and other DEA licensed medical practitioners are barred from transporting controlled substances from one practice setting to another. In addition to restrictions, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the compliance with certain methods of transportation which has created another hurdle between patients and physicians.

To address this issue, I have received feedback from rural doctors and members of the Dallas community, including Dr. Dan Cooper, the physician for the Dallas Cowboys. As a result of their hard work, persistence, and leadership, we were able to provide a common sense solution that puts safeguards in place while removing unnecessary road blocks faced by physicians who are trying to care for their patients. I believe this is an extremely important issue for all doctors, and this bill will ensure they have the opportunity to provide their athletes and patients with much needed medical care under the authority of the DEA.
