Hitting the Ground Running

The new Congress hit the ground running last week to show support for Israel in the wake of the United Nations anti-Israel resolution passed last December. We also passed legislation designed to roll back excessive government regulation- the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act.

On December 23rd, President Barack Obama allowed the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution that condemned Israel and Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and significantly weakened Israel’s negotiating position in the ongoing peace talks. In response, the House passed H. Res. 11, which I cosponsored, that calls for the repeal of the U.N. resolution.

Israel has been America’s most loyal friend, and President Barack Obama’s failure to veto the United Nation’s measure is a clear betrayal of the only peaceful democratic state in the Middle East. I am ready to work with President-elect Donald Trump to repair the damage that President Obama has caused to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

The House also considered the REINS Act last week, which forces unaccountable bureaucrats to submit regulations with major economic costs to Congress for review. This legislation will help stop unelected bureaucrats from using our hard-earned tax dollars for burdensome and expensive regulations that hurt businesses and families across the country.

The 115th Congress got off to a great start, and I look forward to the work the House, Senate and the incoming Administration will accomplish to restore the America we know and love.

It is an honor and a privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House.
