Lamar Smith Strong for Texas CD21

Lamar Smith represents the people of Congressional District 21 which has an approximate 766,190 residents of which only 68,383 voted in 2012 and 66,918 in 2014. Smith had one of the highest voting turnouts and that is because he stays connected to his constituents via email, conference calls, and town hall meetings. He also does his fair share of interaction with the people by block walking to visit with voters and by participating in pro-life events in San Antonio and Austin. Smith displays an almost boundless amount of energy as he travels across his district and flies back and forth to Washington, DC to vote on issues that affect his district and America.

As one of the most respected members of congress, he has earned being selected as Chair of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. As past chairman of the Judiciary and Ethics committees, he remains serving on the Judiciary committee and the Homeland Security Committee. Smith continues to prove over and over again that he is very active and effective in CD 21.

His committee was one of four given the honor of serving subpoenas and he has masterfully used his privilege by holding the EPA accountable. The Science, Space and Technology committee had repeatedly requested that the EPA release data to justify its global warming stance. It has been discovered that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration left out critical satellite data in its report. Because of Smith’s diligence, congress adopted his amendment to hold the EPA accountable by prohibiting them from using data for regulations based on research that is not publicly available.

It’s inconceivable that anyone would question his perfect record on defending the unborn because his voting record proves his determination to protect and defend the ‘innocents’. He has co-sponsored prolife bills which include ‘Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act’ and ‘Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act’. Because of his consistent Prolife stance the National Right to Life gave him a 100% rating. His National Rifle Association A+ rating is also in keeping with our 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms and Smith’s strict constitutionalist stance.

His record on immigration, also unquestionable due to the many bills he has sponsored, tells the story of a Texan understanding the importance of securing our borders. The fact is that Smith joined with Senator Ted Cruz in a lawsuit against Obama’s administration on its unconstitutional amnesty. The president’s executive order is on hold pending decision by the Supreme Court. His recent tour of the Texas-Mexico border attested to the commitment of border security and his constant pledge to the people who he serves.

It is ludicrous that a congressman with so much responsibility and so much time and energy invested in supporting the conservative values of CD21 should be challenged by someone with no leadership abilities, much less any experience and knowledge to write bills or understand the complexities of what needs to be accomplished. At a recent forum, I personally heard this clueless individual answer when asked, “What committee would you serve if you win CD21?” His answer, “I would like to serve in the banking committee.” There is no ‘banking’ committee as such. There is a certain demeanor that we should expect from all our elected officials, and that is civility, cordiality, and an even temperament since not all constituents are going to agree on issues. The following is a summary by Phil Sevilla of the Texas Leadership Institute for Public Advocacy in San Antonio, Texas on Smith’s opponent.

Sadly McCall does not appear to be able to control his temper and emotions in public. He appears to have a very difficult time dealing with anyone who does not share his opinions and disagrees with him. I have witnessed this during separate occasions, different settings and subjects. This is a prescription for disaster as a public figure representing his district and the people of Texas required as his job description call for to work with many strong-minded legislators who may disagree with him. Caveat emptor.

CD21 voters deserve the very best representation and CONGRESSMAN LAMAR SMITH deserves another term in Congress.
