Meet Heidi Cruz

The South Texas Grassroots Volunteers, which includes Bexar County, were treated to a visit by Heidi Nelson Cruz, wife of presidential candidate Ted Cruz. A room filled with over 200 supporters welcomed her at the Bexar County Republican headquarters on Tuesday night, August 25, 2015.

Heidi graciously thanked those in attendance and the volunteers that made the event a success. She opened her speech by crediting her parents for her strong Christian values and a hard work ethic. It was refreshing to hear her say that she and Ted have campaigned throughout America finding so many with the same core conservative values.

Her love of her family was very evident when she spoke about her husband, Ted. She told us that while working for the GW Bush campaign she met Ted and, “It was love at first sight for the both of us.” She also revealed some personal stories about Ted acquainting us with his love of movies and playing poker. She proudly described her two daughters Catherine age 7 and Carolyn age 4, saying that they were the joys of their lives and very different from each other.

The audience seemed to enjoy listening to her reaction to Ted’s proposal of running for the presidential nomination. It took her a while to digest the magnitude of his run for the presidency, but she quickly said, “Yes, when I considered all the issues that are facing our country.” She emphasized that, “we are totally committed to the campaign.”

The crowd loved hearing that Ted couldn’t wait to take on Hillary Clinton. She then turned to more serious conversation. She recognizes the fact that this administration has taken an unprecedented assault on our Religious Liberty and has attacked our 2nd Amendment rights. She went on to say that this president has no regard for the 10th Amendment and that, “Ted jokes that he (Obama) doesn’t even know that it exists.” She also reminded the Republicans in attendance that, “Cruz is a consistent conservative not a campaign conservative” and will do what he says he is going to do. She spoke about ObamaCare and Ted’s filibuster on the senate floor and how the Republican leadership turned their backs on the American people. She reminded us that Ted is relentless in fighting for our liberties, including freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to bear arms. “We need to stand up for constitutional liberties when they benefit others and ourselves,” she said.

Heidi carefully articulated three issues that unite all of us: Economic growth, jobs and opportunity Defending our constitutional liberties Restoring America’s leadership position in the world

She also did not let us forget what Ted would do on his first day in office. Ted will rescind every illegal executive order, open an investigation into Planned Parenthood, will stop the lawsuit against the Little Sisters of the Poor, he will rescind this catastrophic Iran deal and will move the embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. In closing, she stressed the importance of building an army of grassroots and raising the money necessary that will propel Ted to victory. Assuredly she said that they were “building a grassroots army that can win nationally.” Ted is working with the 90M evangelicals in our country and with the ones who stayed home in the last election to vote their values.

Heidi won the admiration of those in attendance by greeting as many supporters as possible. She was engaging and very knowledgeable about the campaign. Like she explained, she is a Christian, a mom, a professional, and a citizen of these United States of America. Her smile was infectious and she reminded me of First Lady Laura Bush by her warm and humble demeanor as she greeted her guests.

She spoke about 20 minutes and spent time after her presentation answering questions from the audience and posing for photo opts. Heidi will make an excellent First Lady and will be an asset to Ted, her girls and the people of these United States.
