The Philip Hayes (R) Candidate Resume Fraud File

R-Candidate Caught Falsely Claiming To Have College Degrees

Philip Hayes was a 2016 Republican candidate for an open State Representative seat in East Texas (District 5). He claimed to have earned two degrees (bachelors and masters) from SMU. However, the Tyler Morning Telegram obtained official documents from SMU proving Hayes had not received any degrees from SMU. When confronted by the newspaper's findings, Hayes at first claimed a "clerical error." A few days later, Hayes suspended his campaign and the Tyler newspaper, which had originally endorsed Hayes, retracted its primary election endorsement.
