Recouping Relocation Bonuses from VA Employees

The Department of Veteran Affairs has yet to recover the relocation bonuses that were fraudulently obtained by executives at the department. It’s unacceptable that some of these employees are receiving bonuses at a time when veterans can’t even get in to see a doctor due to lack of funds and poor performance by VA employees.

That is why I am co-sponsoring legislation with Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) to give the VA Secretary Robert McDonald the authority to require employees to repay some or all of these bonuses. It became clear this legislation was necessary after two VA executives pushed junior employees out so they could take the positions and receive more than $400,000 in bonuses combined.

H.R. 4138 was introduced earlier this month and I hope to see my colleagues support this important legislation.
