Republicans Cave on Abortion Bill on 42nd Anniversary of Roe vs Wade

Yesterday, on the 42nd anniversary of Roe vs Wade, Congress was scheduled to vote on an important abortion bill the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act”, H.R.36. It did not happen. We can sugar coat the fact that the bill was pulled because it wasn’t written with enough consideration for rape victims or because the weak Republicans in office thought the party would lose women voters for the presidential election in 2016. Either reason, it’s totally disheartening for the Pro Life Movement. According to CSPAN two Republican women withdrew their support from the bill, Reps Renee Ellmers from NC and Jackie Walorski from IN.

This action is about as appealing as drinking vinegar juice. Republicans were elected to office as a majority in 2014 to impact the liberalism that has Washington DC in a chokehold. Certainly the House knew this bill was controversial, that it had opponents, that it was their job to have it ready for a vote. The fact that the Republicans pulled this bill just before the March for Life should also send out a Red Flag that the ‘moderate’ Republicans are leading the way. House Republicans let a golden opportunity slip by and instead they have just shown all of us that somewhere they have lost sight of leading America away from the clutches of the culture of death.

There have been over 60 million abortions since Roe vs Wade was enacted into law in 1973. Having participated in the March for Life in previous years, I am certain that the 500,000 anti-abortion marchers were not pleased with the Republican House.

Bill H.R.7 to prohibit taxpayer funded abortions did pass yesterday; however, I am curious if this was a token to placate the millions of Pro-Lifers across America. We don’t need to be placated; we want action taken to stop the atrocities of this Obama Administration. The vote was 242 Ayes to 179 Nos with one Republican, Richard Hanna from New York, voting with the Democrats and 12 not voting.

I took this photograph at the 2013 March for Life and now I wonder what legacy will the Republicans leave? If I sound cynical, I am. We cannot trust that the people we elect to office will follow through and this vote is total proof. It’s time to contact your congressman and tell him/her that we do expect a vote soon on HR36.
