Sessions Supports Commonsense Healthcare Legislation to Provide Relief to American Families

I issued the following statement applauding House passage of H.R. 184, the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2017; H.R. 6311 the Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018; and H.R. 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018:

Over the last 8 years, Americans across the country have felt the devastating impact of Obamacare and its oppressive policies. From 2013 to 2017, we have seen the cost of coverage in the individual market increase by 105% on average. Additionally, many Americans have seen their premiums and deductibles double and we have seen families who are enrolled in Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans get turned away from seeing the specialists and physicians they need.

We're working to put Americans back in the driver's seat and in control of their healthcare coverage. H.R. 6311 and 6199 will work to increase healthcare choices and provide more affordable options for families. Through Health Savings Accounts (HSA), consumers have the ability to make informed decisions that best fit their needs, rather than suffering under the one-size fits all approach adopted by Obamacare.

The Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2017 repeals the onerous Medical Device Tax that has prevented researchers and scientists from developing innovative technologies and medical treatments that lead to cures and lifesaving early diagnoses. Repealing this tax also puts people to work in good paying jobs and encourages businesses to bring jobs back to the United States.

I urge my friends in the Senate to quickly consider these important bills, so we can provide all Americans with quality, affordable healthcare, and begin to fix our broken healthcare system.
