Sessions Supports FISA Reauthorization

I released the following statement in support of a measure to reauthorize the FISA program for six years:

Since the horrific September 11th attacks, our intelligence and law enforcement communities have broken down the walls between them and worked together to protect our great nation. Through the FISA program, we have thwarted countless terrorist attacks on our communities and successfully stopped terrorist attacks across the globe. This program prevented the threat to the New York City subway in 2009 and led to the defeat of radical Islamic terrorist Hajji Iman who was the second in command of ISIL.

The results are clear - this program has successfully used data collection from known or suspected terrorists to protect Americans from dangerous threats. However, it is imperative that we strike a balance between using this information to stop terrorist threats while ensuring that we protect the rights and privacy of all American citizens. I applaud Chairman Nunes and Chairman Goodlatte for finding this balance and putting forth a responsible and effective piece of legislation to ensure we can continue this essential program for the next six years.
