Texas GOP Chairman Announces Resignation

Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Steve Munisteri announced his irrevocable resignation, effective 1pm on Saturday March 7. The Rand Paul campaign also announced that Chairman Munisteri will be serving as an advisor to them.

The resignation was expected by SREC members, though none knew until yesterday when it would occur. Since it was expected, announced candidates for the RPT chair thus far include: Robin L. Armstrong, Wade Emmert, Tom Mechler, and Jared Woodfill.

The election for the Chair for the remainder of the term will be held during the regular March 7 RPT SREC meeting after the 1:00 pm effective time and date. During any interim after 1:00 pm and before the election results are final, RPT Vice Chair Amy Clark, RPT Vice Chairman will preside.

There will be a normal election for RPT Chair and Vice Chair at the 2016 RPT convention, the largest GOP convention in the world--even larger than the GOP national convention.

In his letter to the SREC, Chairman Steve Munisteri said in part, "May God bless you and the great state of Texas. Remember that preserving the cause of freedom is greater than any one individual." (Full letter attached here.)

During Steve's Chairmanship, party finances improved dramatically and GOP candidates' success continues to grow statewide, as underscored by the recent election cycle where GOP wins grew in spite of over $50 million dollars coming into Texas democratic party coffers from out of state as part of their failed Battleground Texas effort. They learned a very hard and expensive lesson--"Don't Mess With Texas" Republicans.

We should all thank Steve for his tireless efforts on behalf of conservatives and the party and I wish him well in his future endeavors.
