HISD Agrees with StopPROP1 - 70 Teachers to be Laid Off if Proposition 1 Passes

Houston Independent School District school board president Greg Meyers announced yesterday the anticipated impact of Houston's Proposition 1 on the district. He told KTRK Channel 13 that the proposition would cost the district over $2.5 - 3.5 million per year and would force the layoff of about 70 teachers.

His comments nearly mirror those of StopPROP1 when he said "We don't disagree with the need for better drainage in our city. We are very welcome to have the opportunity, but we also want folks to understand what our position is." 

Thursday, HISD conducted a school board meeting to discuss a resolution opposing the proposition. If this passes, the school district could use outside funds to help educate the voters about the impact of this proposition on HISD and other school districts.
