Fix Immigration
Republican Congressman Ted Poe has stepped into the gauntlet! I have known Ted Poe since his days as a criminal court judge in Harris County. I love to call him “Judge.” Please read Ted Poe's article in Politco "To start immigration reform, study Texas solution". Then forward it to other members of the Texas Delegation and ask them to get on the train and support Ted Poe! Texas Republicans have a sensible solution, it is appropriately named the Texas Solution!
With Ted Poe, Republicans can be the leaders on sensible immigration reform! The time is now! Read more »

Two years ago, a US Border Patrol BORTAC Team was responding to a sensor alert in the Peckwell/Rio Ricco sector of Southern Arizona. This region was known to have violent Mexican gangs known as RIP Crews. These RIP Crews would roam these mountains preying on other drug smugglers and human trafficking coyotes. Agent Brian Terry was a member of this elite BORTAC Team. Upon encountering the RIP Crew a gun battle ensued leaving Brian Terry dying in the desert sand and one of the bandit's wounded. Now, after two years of Congressional hearings and Department of Justice (DOJ) investigations, we know little more now than we did shortly after that night. Read more »
For over two years now, I have been writing about unethical businesses using employee misclassification as a strategy to create an unfair competitive advantage over legitimate employers in the marketplace. According to an article this week on Construction Citizen, we may finally be moving in the right direction thanks to business leaders, the Texas Workforce Commission, and a bipartisan group of Texas legislators coming together to take action for the upcoming session of the Texas Legislature.
Today U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) along with several of his colleagues went to the Senate floor to call up H.R. 6429, the bipartisan STEM Jobs Act, which passed the House earlier this week. Senate Democrats objected to the bill, which would boost job creation and spur economic growth by reallocating up to 55,000 green cards a year to the top foreign graduates of U.S. universities with advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Immigration Reform should be viewed as a matter of national security and not social engineering. Currently our immigration system is more about family reunification than it is about ecomomic needs and national security. In fact, the current system is so broken that we have millions of undocumented people wandering around the country, and we have no idea who they are, why they
The number is unclear, but it appears that there are about 11 Million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. Of them, 70% are Latinos. It is further unclear as to how many of them became undocumented, and to many it is irrelevant as many in the public insist on using terms to “group” them all into a pool of lawbreakers who are undeserving of any type of consideration for remaining in the U.S. Read more »
Now before all you noise makers on the extreme right get your knickers in a wad, this is not a story about amnesty. But it is a story about fixing a problem that should have been fixed in the last decade. It is also a story about learning how to communicate our message in a way that doesn't drive away people who should be aligned with our core values and principles. Immigration is a problem Democrats don't want to fix because it is an effective wedge issue to keep Hispanics, who share your same
As Congress returns to Washington, I look forward to continuing to represent South Texas through the lame duck session and into the 113th Congress.
Right now, the media is in an uproar about the fiscal cliff that is fast approaching, and although there is a lot to be done, I am optimistic we will avert this cliff and start meaningful work on tax reform, job creation and immigration reform. You can count on me to continue to be your voice in Washington, D.C. I am honored to serve you and thank you for your involvement with the issues and challenges that face our country and the world. President Obama made huge promises to the American people about what he would do about immigration. He promised voters he would pass true reform legislation in his first year in office. Not only did he not pass any kind of reform, he did not even propose anything. And this was during a time where he controlled the U.S. House and Senate and could have passed anything he wanted. He did nothing.
Now fast forward to the 2012 election.
