Barack Obama Should Thank North Dakota and Texas

Barack Obama should thank two states, North Dakota and Texas, for creating many of the jobs during his administration. Considering that Obama has done what he could to end much of the fossil fuels industry, it is ironic that during his administration, Obama presided over the rebirth of American energy and saw America become a leading energy producer.

North Dakota continues to set records for oil production within its state borders, and it may be America's most successful economic state. North Dakota has the nation's lowest jobless rate, and the state budget has a billion dollar surplus. In 2013, the state's GDP growth was 9.7% with strong housing starts. Thousands of landowners have joined the millionaires club from collecting and gas royalties. The state minimum wage law is $7.25 per hour, but this number is irrelevant since many of lower end jobs in North Dakota begin at 15 dollars an hour. North Dakota shows that if you develop your economic resources to its utmost, you can raise wages among the lower ends and throughout the entire economic strata.

Texas has been a job creating machine even during the depth of the recession. Economist Mark Perry noted that Texas has seen jobs increase by 12% from December 2007 through September of this year, while the rest of the country is one million jobs below the December 2007 levels. Perry observed, “While Texas was able to actually increase jobs slightly even during the depths of the recession in 2008 and 2009, the US labor market minus Texas experienced a stunning loss of 8.374 million jobs (a percentage drop of 6.2%) in the two year period between December 2007 and December 2009.”

Thirty-six percent of our oil production comes from Texas, and if Texas was a separate nation, it would be the 8th leading oil producer in the world. Texas has combined development of its energy resources with an employer-friendly combination of low taxes, smart regulatoins and world-class workforce.

So what can we conclude? Namely the fossil fuel industry has kept this economy going during the recession, and the dumbest economy plan ever designed. Without our energy industry, we would most likely still be in recession and unemployment levels would be even worse. We are now becoming a world number energy producer, and the only obstacles we face are the radical environmentalists who seek to destroy what has kept our economy afloat. As Mark Perry concludes, “God Bless Texas,” for sound economic policies and developing its energy resources.
