Grow The Economy
WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Representatives Ted Poe (R-TX), Mike Thompson (D-CA), Peter Welch (D-VT) and Chris Gibson (R-NY) today introduced bipartisan legislation in support of an “all of the above” energy approach. H.R. 1696, the Master Limited Partnerships Parity Act will modify the federal tax code to make it easier and more attractive for private capital to invest in renewable energy.
“We need an all-the-above approach to America’s energy future,” said Thompson. “This bill levels the playing field by freeing up money for private investment in renewable energy. It will help us create jobs, strengthen
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz recently addressed the Young Republicans in an opinion essay ("Political support grows for same-sex marriage," Page B7, April 26), supporting same-sex marriage and advocating for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Castro's position and his willingness to discuss same-sex marriage on the national stage reflect a clear departure from the Democratic Party's historical position. While certain polls indicate that support for same-sex marriage has recently
Texas is expanding with high paying jobs and leading America in entrepreneurship while California continues its nosedive. Texas, depending upon less taxes, common-sense regulation and encouragement of entrepreneurship, has grown whereas California is falling further behind with bankruptcy just around the corner. Here is the kicker, California could be as wealthy as Texas and be able to raise enough revenues to wet the appetite of any California politicians. Read more »
Although today's jobs report is good news for some Americans, millions more remain unemployed or have given up looking for work in the Obama economy. Despite the fact that our unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, President Obama failed to even mention the need for private sector job growth or job-creating projects like the Keystone XL Pipeline in his press conference this week.
Yesterday on the House Floor, I highlighted my Expedited LNG for American Allies Act. The bill, which is the House companion to bipartisan legislation introduced by Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), seeks to help strengthen our strategic partnerships with key allies, reduce the trade deficit and boost job growth right here at home by streamlining the regulatory process to export natural gas to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries, Japan and others. This bill is a modified version of the LNG for NATO Act, originally authored by Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) and which I introduced as the House companion bill in the 112th Congress.
Is the sale of the jail, which the County will continue to lease, the best way to resolve the problems the County has created by building a jail which the County does not currently need?
Texas law allows Counties to issue Revenue Bonds, which are secured by the revenues of a project, without voter approval. But it is inconceivable that the legislature intended this provision to be used where the source of the revenue is not a third party. That is exactly the situation created by the Joe Corley Jail financing. The County established
Yesterday, I re-introduced the Crop Risk Options Plan (CROP) Act, which will strengthen farmers’ ability to manage risk. The CROP Act was introduced in the last session of Congress, and earned inclusion in both the House and Senate Agriculture Committee bills.
Crop insurance is the preferred risk management tool for most farmers
Once we were California dreaming and California was the place that you would go to pursue your dreams. Today, it is the state where you are from, not where you are going. When the largest state, population wise, is failing, it does hurt the nation. The following stats illustrate California’s problems. California has some of the nation's highest state taxes including gasoline, sales taxes and is a top bracket of income taxes,
Texas Senator John Carona (R-Dallas) has been working hard for several years trying to get the State of Texas to enforce the existing laws on employee misclassification and add some teeth to the current laws by increasing the penalties for misclassifying workers as independent contractors when they are truly employees. Misclassification is also one of the biggest ways unethical employers skirt employment law and give jobs to illegal immigrants who work as day laborers.
Last week, I reported on a hearing held in the Texas Senate on Sen. Carona's bill, SB 676. While no one spoke in opposition to the bill, and commercial
