Astroturf At Montgomery County Polls

Texas Patriots PAC - The wins by three of four supported candidates (Gordy Bunch, Mike Bass, and Jeff Long) for the Township Board last week - at least partly attributed to the Texas Patriots PAC - have obviously not been unnoticed by the Primary candidates.

“Volunteers” spent much of Wednesday passing out a copycat voter guide from “The Original Tea Party of Montgomery County”, which lists their endorsements on one side and touts the merits of three establishment Republican candidates on the other. Two are incumbents, and one has a longtime Board member as their treasurer. The voter guides were brought to the polls by a recently defeated Township Board candidate and were distributed from the campaign tent of an Establishment incumbent candidate for County Commissioner who is not supported by the Texas Patriots PAC.

One side looks like the ballot, but only lists their recommendations. The reverse states “our message”, a confusing rewording of some of the Tea Party core values, along with concerns about “protecting our children, their innocence and joy”.

It goes on to say that:

“We believe that the Texas tea party patriots (the other tea party) has been influenced by non-residents of this community...”

We assume they mean the Texas Patriots PAC. We would be fascinated to learn what or whom they are referring to and what type of influence. Yes, the Tea Party is an American movement. So we suppose that means non-residents of this community - fascinating.

We would also be fascinated to know who "they" are. No identification or contact information at all was available for the organization, and when the people passing out the information were asked, they said they did not know anything about the group, they were volunteering for one of the Establishment candidates.
