Here are a few thoughts on 2012 and beyond. In a recent piece in the Weekly Standard, Jay Cost observed that the 2012 election will be close and best case scenario for Republicans would be 51-49. Another aspect is that Obama has appeared to hit the floor as Jay Cost observed, "The Real Clear Politics job approval average has actually found a marginal softening on the disapproval number in the weeks since Election Day, while the approval number has been consistently between 45 and 47 percent.

A Different Perspective on the 2012 Election

It’s now clear that Democrats suffered huge losses in the House of Representatives and substantial losses in the U. S. Senate as a result of the Midterm elections. Republicans are on track to win 63 net House seats and 6 net Senate seats

The University of Houston played host to a public hearing by the Texas House/Senate Redistricting Committees on Saturday, November 20. Nearly 200 members of the public and a few concerned Members of Congress showed up to express their opinions about one of the most important activities of the upcoming legislative sessions. Redistricting will effect the boundaries of US Congressional Districts and those of the Texas House and Senate. It will also determine the placement of the four ADDITIONAL Congressional Seats Texas is expected to receive.   Read more »

A Public Hearing on Redistricting will be held November 20th, 10:00 a.m. at The University of Houston Athletic/Alumni Center, O'Quinn Great Hall, 3100 Cullen Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77004. As we all know, the next legislative session will be consumed by redistricting, along with the biennial budget, a voter ID bill, a sonogram bill, a possible immigration debate, and a potential challenge to Joe Straus for the Speaker's gavel. However, redistricting is probably the most pertinent issue as Texas is expected to gain four congressional seats--four times as many as any other state!   Read more »

Mitt Romney won the Southern Republican Leadership Conference's 2012 straw poll by one vote on Saturday. Mitt Romney had 439 votes, compared with Ron Paul, who had 438 votes.
