There are numerous sources of bad information, misinformation, intentionally distorted information, and even outright lies circulating in media and government circles regarding the accidental BP Macondo blowout in the Mississippi Canyon block 252 well. I certainly can’t recall 2 years when I’ve seen an administration barrel its agenda directly into the wing, whether political or judicial. George W. Bush resolutely prosecuted the war in Iraq, even as its public popularity sank. It is more than a bit strange to talk about the “nature” of corporations. Humans have an inherent nature, and further are distinguished from animal nature in that they are morally assessed as responsible and judged “good” or “bad.” Corporations are not natural creatures or properly assessed as “good” or “bad.” They are an amalgamation of the interests of individual human beings. Neither is the primary interest of those participating individuals either good or bad. Read more »
At the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico is a canyon, much like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, except that it is covered by about a mile of sea water. It is both wide and deep. It has steep cliff-like walls. And two or three miles below the canyon floor, various oil companies have discovered vast amounts of high quality oil and gas-the lifeblood of western economies, and the hope of developing ones.
Today, I issued the following statement after a federal judge blocked the Obama Administration’s six-month ban on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico:
Today’s ruling on the drilling moratorium is a victory for Gulf Coast jobs and our economy and job creators. In light of the very substantial economic harm of an overly broad ban on drilling,
I have often said, and commented yesterday, that it’s no good use and even counter-productive to make assertions about moral or intellectual deficiencies like the low-rent MSNBC criticisms of conservatives, when we aren’t in position to be unquestionably certain. So this is not such a denigration. But, it seems to me a quite reasonable suspicion and I’d like to hear a better explanation. Here’s what seems to me a clear picture of what I see from here.
