Mayor Bill White Has Incurred Billions of Dollars in Losses and Now He's Campaigning for US Senate!

The following is a letter written to the editor of the Kerrville Daily Times, regarding Houston mayor Bill White's US senatorial campaigning in the Hill Country:

I notice that you recently reported on Houston mayor Bill White's campaigning in the Hill Country to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison as US senator. As usual, he is touting his supposed fiscally responsible stewardship of Houston taxpayers' money.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Under Bill White, the City of Houston incurred about $1.5 billion (yes, BILLION) of operating losses for the last five audited fiscal years ended June 30, 2008. In doubt? Merely check page 199 of the audited 2008 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

Under Bill White, the City of Houston had a $1.2 billion deficiency in assets at June 30, 2008. Verify that on page 15 of the 2008 CAFR.

Under Bill White, the City's long-term debt payable from property taxes has increased 55%.

Under Bill White, the City's per capita long-term debt is now twice that of the bankrupt State of California.

Surely Hill Country voters won't fall for this snake oil salesman.
