Texas Young Republican County Chair Candidates

Four members of the Texas Young Republican Federation (TYRF) are vying for the position of Republican Party County Chair in four counties throughout the state. “I am ecstatic that we have so many members of our organization stepping up, putting themselves out there and running for county chair,” says TYRF Chairman Brian Bodine. “The rest of the state will see what I already know- that the leaders in TYRF have the leadership qualities to not only lead in our organization, but in their county parties as well.”

Chris Carmona, former Co-Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) and current Executive Director of TYRF, is running for Harris County Republican Party Chair against the incumbent chairman.  After graduation from Marymount Manhattan College, Carmona returned to Houston to attend South Texas College of Law and is now the father of two daughters. A practicing attorney in Houston, Carmona says he is concerned for the upcoming general elections and is committed to preparing the local party to start wining in Harris County. “We need to stand for something, and we need to unify and communicate that to the people of Harris County,” Carmona says. If elected, Carmona will be the first Hispanic elected to a Harris County Chair position, as neither the Republicans nor the Democrats in Harris have ever elected a Hispanic to that post. She professes a love for the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), where she and her husband are raising their two sons. “Residents of the RGV are strong and resilient, but still need less dependence on the government and better access to business and economic growth.  As county chair, I will be committed to promoting the pro-life, pro-business tenets of the Republican Party and continue to help grow the GOP as I also promote growth opportunity and prosperity.”  In addition to her leadership role in TYRF, Pena-Garza serves as Auditor of YRNF.
