Rolling Back Agency Regulations

Every year, federal agencies roll out thousands of new regulations that hold the weight of law and cost taxpayers millions of dollars. We have seen this time and time again with the Department of Labor Overtime Rule, the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule and more. This week, the House will continue its goal of repealing unnecessary and burdensome federal regulations by voting and passing the “Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act.”

This bill will establish a commission to conduct a review of the Code of Federal Regulations to identify rules that are overly burdensome, not financially sustainable or are harmful in other ways. These rules and regulations will be flagged and recommended to Congress for repeal, either immediately or at a later date. Additionally, this bill will require agencies, when instituting new regulations; withdraw rules flagged by the commission for repeal. This will ensure that any regulations are offset by the removal of unnecessary regulations. By reexamining and removing overly onerous and outdated regulations, Congress will remove a burden that stifles entrepreneurship, harms job growth and the economy and costs taxpayers millions.
