PLANNED PARENTHOOD and the KILLING FIELDS in San Antonio

The Khmer Rouge regime is known to have killed an estimated 2.5 million Cambodians from 1975 to 1979. Legal abortions in the US since Roe v. Wade from 1973 until 2011 have been estimated at 53 million with almost a million in 2012 and 1.2 million in 2013. The immoral never rest, and unfortunately, San Antonio has not been overlooked by the butchers of our most vulnerable: the unborn. Planned Parenthood is presently renovating a 22,000 square foot building at 2140 Babcock in San Antonio, Texas at a cost of approximately $6.5 million.

Planned Parenthood, CEO Jeffrey Hons has taken a militant stance to continue to operate in Texas after House Bill 2 became law. His remarks to a SA Express News reporter were clear. “If the governor or anyone else thought we were going to close our doors, well, they were wrong.” Under Texas HB2, there are only eight out of 41 abortion clinics still operating in Texas, according to Melissa Fletcher Stoeltje from the SA Express News.

The Stop Planned Parenthood coalition has been actively working to stop the reconstruction from happening and to stop the opening of the Planned Parenthood facility. There have been a total of 12 press conferences, rain or shine, held in front of the 2140 building and City Hall on Thursdays, which will continue.

On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, attorney Dennis Drouillard representing Thelma Franco, argued to have a temporary injunction to stop the issuance of the certificate of occupancy for the 2140 location but was denied by Judge Sol Casseb, Jr. An appeal from this ruling will be filed. Roderick Sanchez represents the City of San Antonio.

Franco neighbors the proposed facility and does not want Planned Parenthood located next to her Dreamhill Estates subdivision. Representing Franco, Drouillard also filed an application for Writ of Mandamus which basically means that the sole issue will be whether the city of San Antonio was correct or wrong in refusing to accept Franco’s administrative appeal. The administrative appeal would have been an automated stay under a city zoning regulation known as the Unified Development Code. Under Chapter 211 of the code, an appeal would stay the issuance of certificate of occupancy by the city until the merits of her appeal could be heard. Drouillard is presently preparing for trial on Franco’s appeal.

Realizing that the proposed mega abortion complex will be situated across from the Medical Center leaves no doubt that the only purpose for the location of the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic is to garner their share of the abortion money market. If Planned Parenthood really cared about the women in rural Texas areas, it would have built an ambulatory surgical clinic where rural women would receive adequate abortion care.
