State Senator Bob Deuell, MD Decides Against Recount After Close Republican Primary Runoff Election

Greenville, Texas, Friday, June 30, 2014— There will be no recount in the hard-fought Republican Primary runoff for State Senate District 2. On Friday morning, incumbent State Senator Bob Deuell called his opponent, Bob Hall of Edgewood, and congratulated him. The runoff contest was the closest state election in Texas with Hall winning at 50.4% and a 300 vote margin.

"After carefully studying the 36,000 ballots cast across the nine counties of our district, we concluded the election was well conducted and there is no need for a recount," said Deuell.

In his congratulatory call on Friday, Deuell said he would continue helping Texas Republicans win their local and statewide elections this fall and with electing a Republican President in 2016. He also gave Hall a firm commitment for an orderly transition after the general election.

As current Chairman of the Texas State Senate Economic Development Committee, and Vice Chairman of both the Senate's Health and Human Services Committee and State Affairs Committee, Deuell said he looked forward to completing his current State Senate responsibilities.

"In the remaining 7 months of my term, I will work to complete my committee duties on statewide issues, help local government officials with their state infrastructure projects, and will campaign to pass this November's State Constitutional Amendment on Highway Funding (Proposition #1)."

Additionally, Deuell, a family doctor, promised to stay active in the fight to abolish Obamacare. An outspoken advocate for patient rights, Deuell has stated previously that "a one size fits all federal healthcare plan is physically and fiscally irresponsible." Last session, Deuell worked closely with Governor Perry on a proposal to let states design healthcare systems unique to each state's local population.

Deuell's full concession statement was released through social media and is reprinted below.

"I am honored and humbled to have served 12 years as District 2's State Senator. With this said, I now warmly congratulate my opponent, Bob Hall, and his supporters for their hard fought victory. I also want to thank my family, our friends, supporters, and staff for their hard work in this election. We can hold our heads high knowing we gave it our best effort. Primaries can be tough, and ours was no exception. But Republicans locally and statewide now need to come together for the good of Texas. I truly believe as voters, we are all winners through our participation in democracy. God bless all Texans and God bless Texas."
