Protecting Our Borders - Death of Officer Kevin Will

On Thursday, Houston laid to rest one of its finest at the hands of an accused drunk driver and reputed MS-13 gang member who was in the country illegally. Early Monday morning, Officer Kevin Will, was struck and killed by Johoan Rodriguez, a 26-year-old illegal immigrant who had been previously deported on two separate occasions. Officer Will’s last act was saving the life of a fellow Houstonian. We owe him and his family a permanent debt of gratitude.

We also owe the Will family and the families of the six other Houston police officers who were killed by illegal immigrants some assurance that it will not happen again. Losing any life is tragic and heartbreaking; losing six Houston police officers to illegal immigrants is simply unacceptable. Securing our homeland should be the federal government’s highest priority and that starts with our borders. The federal government is directly responsible for enforcing existing laws to secure our borders and ensuring the safe and legal movement of people, goods, and commerce across our borders.

I recently spoke on the House floor and on The Roger Hedgecock Show about my efforts to enforce existing law through Operation Streamline and to procure more detention bed space and prosecutors. Please know that I will not rest until our border is secure and existing law is enforced.
