Rick Perry is leading Bill White among likely voters, 49 percent to 37 percent

It looks like Governor Rick Perry is headed for a record third term as Texas Governor. According to an Oct. 29th Dallas Morning News poll of likely voters, Republican Rick Perry leads Democrat Bill White by double digits - 49% to 37%. Green Party candidate Deb Shafto has 3% and Libertarian Kathie Glass has 2% of the vote.

Bill White's spokeswoman Katy Bacon is not convinced:

"We'll see poll-apalooza leading up to Election Day, but people are voting and Texans are ready for a leader like Bill White. We have an enormous and effective field operation with thousands of volunteers getting out the vote."

However, more Republicans, tired of the Obama Washington agenda, are expected to get to the polls than Democrats, giving Rick Perry the advantage.

"The big story here is that Perry finally seems to have sealed the deal," said pollster Mickey Blum.
