Texas Bill will Give Guns to Teachers - Some School Teachers ALREADY Carry Guns - Congressman Says Armed Principal Could Have Stopped CT Massacre

Texas State Representative Jason Villalba has announced that he will file a bill to allow teachers to have concealed handguns at schools. Should Teachers pack heat at Schools to be able to protect kids from mass shootings? I say yes, and I wrote this article a few days ago explaining why: Qualified School Officials Should be Allowed Concealed Handguns to Protect Kids from Mass Shootings - Texas Governor Perry supports it.

Many people have responded to that article. Most people agreed that it would be a good idea, but some were afraid of the unknown. Let me calm some fears. It is NOT unknown. Some school districts already allow certain teachers to have a concealed weapon.   Read more »

Joe Straus – The Manipulative Texas Speaker Of The House

The administration that was just reelected is plagued by a tremendous lack of leadership, honor and morals. We have been abandoned and conservatives must move forward against this obstruction. We have to clean house in our own party, for instance, the RNC Reince Priebus, all of the ‘established’ campaign machines and someone please yank Karl Rove off Fox News. He was wrong in 2008 and he was wrong in 2012! There are other national ‘established’ Republicans that I am sure you could mention.

But what about our own grand state of TEXAS? RedState, a conservative blog for right of center online activists, came out with a blood boiling story on

Find a Women’s Health Program doctor in Texas

Planned Parenthood (“PP”) for years has used the media and fraud to bring in clients when those women could have gone to a family doctor or OB/Gyn. Below are three ways to find a local doctor who participates with the Women’s Health Program in Texas.

As a woman doctor, mother and grandmother from Texas, I support Governor Perry in his support of the law, passed once again by the Texas Legislature last summer, that prohibits any of our tax funds going to any “affiliate” of abortionists. Senate Bill 7, the huge law covering Texas medical financing, was passed in the Special Session of the 82nd Legislature and renewed a State prohibition on any Texas Medicaid funds going to “perform or promote elective abortions, or to contract with entities that perform or promote elective abortions

‘Super Tuesday’ with a Lowercase ‘s’

Today is “Super Tuesday,” and Texans SHOULD be voting. However, due to the redistricting challenges, Texas voters will be voting almost three months later on May 29 and will likely have little to say about our presidential nominee. Texas holds the second highest cache of delegates to the Republican National Convention with 155 (behind California’s 172).

Speaker Straus Issues Additional Interim Charges

AUSTIN—Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) today issued additional interim charges that build on the priorities he set forth in October. These priorities include ways to attract more manufacturing jobs and build on economic development efforts to make government more efficient and effective.

Highlights of the new charges include a charge to the House Committee on Energy Resources to specifically study the use of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” to extract natural gas and oil from vast shale deposits in Texas. The Select Committee on State Sovereignty will monitor the implementation of the Interstate Health Compact in other states and at the federal level.

Enabling vs. Providing “Infrastructure” for Family Planning (and a Map of Government-Funded Family Planning Providers in Texas)

It’s not just right wing, Christian “anti-choicers” (we really prefer to be called “pro-life”) who understand that paying abortion providers and those who refer to them under Medicaid and Title X funds enables them to do abortions. From the Guttmacher Institute:

Title X is a grant program under which funds are distributed to grantees who design and operate their own programs—funding can be targeted to local needs and challenges. Unlike Medicaid, for example, Title X can subsidize the intensive outreach necessary to encourage some individuals to seek services. Furthermore, by paying for everything from staff salaries to utility bills to medical supplies, Title X funds provide the essential infrastructure support that enables clinics to go on and claim Medicaid reimbursement for the clients they serve.   Read more »

An Important November Election -- This Year

You and I have an opportunity this fall to weigh in on changes proposed to the state’s constitution. State lawmakers meet in regular session in each odd-numbered year. During this time, they often propose changes to the Texas Constitution, the document of highest law within the Lone Star State. State senators and representatives can suggest changes, but it is the voters who approve or reject them.

The Texas Constitution is not a light read; in fact it is dense with scores of permissions and prohibitions.
