This begins a series of articles where I will explore issues of illegal immigration and its economic, political and social impact on our nation. In this segment we will look at the current situation on the flow of illegal immigrants and the need for strong border security. In Part Two, we will look at some of the suggestions being made for how to reform the current immigration system, which is clearly broken at this time. Future segments will address plans for what to do with the millions of illegal aliens who have either entered the country illegally, or who have become illegal because of visa overstays. The race for the US Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has produced some very interesting candidates. People from the grassroots like Lela Pettinger to establishment Republicans like David Dewhurst. A late entry in the race has quickly moved to the top tier of candidates in the race - former NFL quarterback and Texas businessman Craig James.
I first heard James speak at the Saddle Up Texas Tea Party Straw Poll earlier this year and was intrigued by what I heard.
After this week, it appears even more likely that former Massachusett's Governor Mitt Romney will emerge at the Republican nominee for President of the United States. He will move on to face an extremely well-financed incumbent president, Barack Obama, in November. But, can he win? Maybe, but I believe immigration may play the key role in the outcome of the election.

In December of 2010, US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered by a gang of Mexican banditos. Two of the weapons involved in the shooting were learned to have come from a federal program called "Operation Fast & Furious". Recently the House Judiciary Committee under the leadership of Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) held a hearing to receive testimony from US Attorney General (AG) Eric Holder as to the Justice Department's involvement in this operation. Last week in The Woodlands, Texas Barnes and Noble bookstore, Republican Presidential Candidate Herman Cain took questions from the Houston news media and from TexasGOPVote. Mr. Cain was in Texas promoting his new book, This is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House. Mr. Cain was greeted at the store by a bevy of reporters and around 1,500 happy supporters who stood in line for hours to get their books signed by a man many believe will be the next President of these United States.
