Cornyn Statement on the Five-Year Anniversary of Obama’s Failed Stimulus

I issued the following statement to mark the five-year anniversary of the signing of President Obama’s stimulus plan.

When the stimulus was first announced, we were promised it would lead to ‘shovel-ready’ jobs and get our economy moving. Five years later, our economy is still sluggish, Americans are dropping out of the workforce by the thousands, and the President’s latest big government experiment, Obamacare, is now on track to slash 2 million more jobs from the workforce.   Read more »

Revisiting The Life of Julia

Most recently I wrote about how Wendy Davis' rise through Texas Politics can be traced as much to the efforts and aid by her second husband than anything she has done. Davis' own political rise, along with Hillary Clinton's soon to be second run at the Presidency, were aided by male patrons who supported their efforts; but there is more to the story.   Read more »

Final Report from United Nations Climate Change Conference in Warsaw, Poland

The UNFCCC meeting in Warsaw, Poland, is finished! Great strides were made toward its stated purpose, a “complete transformation of the economic structure of the world.”

The U.S. caved to both funding schemes: “loss and damages” and to a deadline for commitments to the Green Climate Fund.

An international mechanism called the “Warsaw international mechanism for loss and damage” was created and work on funding is to begin next year.   Read more »

Congressman Poe: Sequester Pakistan, Not Our Troops

I introduced H.R. 1253, the Sequester Pakistan Act, which will freeze all foreign aid to Pakistan until the Military Tuition Assistance Program of the Department of Defense is fully funded. This important program provides our troops the opportunity to obtain higher education that many could otherwise not afford.

The President is punishing the troops for the sake of politics.

“Little Shop of Horrors” Comes to Life in Government Spending

As I was reflecting upon our current fiscal situation here in Midland County, an analogy came to my mind. That analogy is the movie “Little Shop of Horrors.” For those who have not seen the movie (which ends differently than the Broadway play), here is a link to a synopsis that I have written.

If you think about the movie long enough, you will probably come up with more analogies than I did. But, here are a few of my observations:   Read more »

Paranoid Delusion About "The Rich"

I have an email correspondent who cuts loose with yet one more rant about the greedy, voracious and calloused rich suppressing and robbing the middle and lower classes. Of course, President Obama is pressing this angle right now, claiming that Mitt Romney wants to tax others to pay for “another tax cut” for the rich. One might speculate that as a leftist ideologue, he believes that the “cost” of tax cuts will eventually come out of the better interest of society, though growth, opportunity and increased revenue always follow tax cuts.

Can Someone Have the “Right” to the Fruits of Your Labor?

[Editor’s note: Mark Ramsey was a member of the State GOP Platform committee in 2010 and 2012, and was also elected to the State Republican Executive Committee from Senate District 7 (SREC SD7), Senator Dan Patrick’s district.]

A bold, fresh and potentially game-changing Platform resolution was unanimously passed this week by the Texas GOP.

This weekend in Ft. Worth, Texas, (“Where the West Begins”), 31 members of the State GOP Platform

An Express Lane for Solyndra, A Roadblock for Others

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is a political committee devoted to maintaining and increasing the 239-member Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

We now know that the Obama administration forced the ill-fated $535 million loan to Solyndra to be approved in a mere 24 hours so the administration could send out a press release celebrating the stimulus loan:   Read more »

Why Democrats Fear Republican Latinos: And Those Switching to the Right Side

Democrats could anticipate the Latino vote without much effort or campaigning in past political races. In fact, it used to be the norm that if Latinos voted, no one asked their political affiliation because it was presumed that they were Democrat, especially in Texas. Studies have shown us that Latinos will come out and vote at certain times and for certain candidates.

Black America’s Leadership

When I think of Leadership, the first example of a good leader that comes to my mind is Moses. Moses took Leadership when the Jewish People were in slavery in Egypt. Under Moses Leadership, the Jews went from a very bad position to a much better position. They went from Slavery to Freedom and they were on their way to the Promise Land.

Now let’s compare Moses with the whole managery of Black Leaders in America, for the last 60 or more years.
