Grover Norquist Interview on Immigration Reform - "People are an asset, not a liability"

Grover Norquist Interview with Bob Price on Immigration ReformThe immigration reform bill, sponsored by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has sparked a lot of discussion around the country bring about the kind of national debate we have needed for a very long time. Recently, Americans for Tax Reform founder, Grover Norquist, testified before the Senate about the pending legislation and why immigration reform is needed. He opened his testimony with the statement, "People are an asset, not a liability."

Note: Join the discussion in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

This week, Norquist sat down with TexasGOPVote to expand on his thoughts on immigration reform, and I asked him about this comment and what it means in the context of immigration reform.   Read more »

Senator Rubio Steps Forward to Stop De Facto Amnesty - Discussion Tonight at King Street Patriots

Senator Marco RubioSenator Marco Rubio has launched a new ad campaign to explain and gain support for his Conservative Immigration Reform program. The ad targets what we have been saying on TexasGOPVote for quite some time, de facto amnesty, strong border security and other strict rules on immigrants who are in this country either through illegal entry or visa overstays.

Current immigration policy and our refusal to deal with the related problems have, in fact, given

The GOP Embracing Latinos

I had the privilege of addressing the Republican Party’s Growth and Opportunity Project these past few weeks on how the party can better connect with Hispanic voters. Whether well meaning or otherwise, the Republican Party has been gravely ineffectual in the past in adequately engaging and capitalizing on the vitality and strength of the Latino communities.

Many of us active within the Republican Party have long been frustrated by this. Many a brave Republican leader have now stepped up to help repair the damage of the past and to help guide us forward to a vital and integrated American future that includes the full strength of our Latino communities. Praise goes to Sean Hannity, John Boehner, Marco Rubio, John McCain, Jeff Flake, among others.   Read more »

Donald Trump Calls for Amnesty at CPAC - Throws all Hispanics in One Bucket

A smug Donald Trump calls for de facto amnesty at CPACConstruction mogul Donald Trump stood before CPAC last week and called for a de facto amnesty for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in this country. Trump said Republicans should block immigration reform because 100% of any new citizens created by immigration reform would be Democrats.

This is more of the typical block-everything, solve-nothing immigration policy that has left Republicans on the short side of the vote in the past two presidential elections. We have followed this path for many years now and we are no closer to solving our nation's broken immigration system now than we were then.   Read more »

CPAC 2013 and the Presidential Hopefuls

Fellow TexasGOPVote blogger Tom Donelson recently wrote about some of the CPAC 2013 speakers who stand out as possible 2016 Presidential contenders, listing Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and Rand Paul.

I respectfully add to that list Ted Cruz, Allen West, Governors Scott Walker and Jeb Bush, and a long shot but very popular person, Dr. Ben Carson of Prayer Breakfast fame.

CPAC also featured Texas Governor Rick Perry, whose presence seemed to signal interest in running for President, although he has frequently told audiences

The Future of Conservatism is Now

Over the next four years, conservatism begins the process of identifying itself for the 21st century, and the process will begin with three young politicians: Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal. Scott Rasmussen prophesied that 2012 was to be the last election that the Republican establishment would decide the nominee. CPAC 2013 showed the future

Scoop from CPAC: Marco Rubio Brought Down the House

The enormous meeting room at the Gaylord National Hotel where Marco Rubio gave his speech on this first day of CPAC 2013 was packed to standing room only, with loads of young enthusiastic voters, and supporters of all ages and backgrounds. Rubio energized the crowd with simple, straightforward observations about what is happening to America and what is needed to fix our problems. He gave a stirring, eloquent, optimistic, hopeful and powerful speech.   Read more »

US Chamber of Commerce Says Doing Nothing about Our Current System of Immigration is Amnesty!

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Supports Immigration ReformFor a long time now, I have been saying that doing nothing about our broken immigration system has created a de-facto amnetsty for the millions of illegal immigrants in this country. Now the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is catching up and saying the same thing. In a message to its members, Rob Engstrom, Seniro Vice President and National Political Director, U.S. Chamber of Commerce said, "The immigration system is broken. With over 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., doing nothing is de facto amnesty."

Nearly 40% of these 11 million people did not enter this country illegally. They came here legally and over-stayed their

Why Texas Needs A Susana Martinez To Keep It RED

When Texas voted in this last election, no one did an exit poll; perhaps because it would have shown that Latinos voted for the Democrats in larger numbers than we Republicans wanted to acknowledge. The fear that Texas is turning purple is of great concern for Republicans and should be the epiphany that forces the GOP to look fear in the face: those irreversible changing demographics in Texas. It is no longer sufficient to run a candidate with a Latino surname and think
