Looking for Mr. Reagan
A leader of the conservative movement, Reagan began his campaign in 1979 with plenty of whispers that maybe time has passed him by. The establishment opposed him and even some younger conservatives looked for younger alternatives but as we now know, the rest is history. Posted under:

Inquiry On Governor Rick Perry
I’m glad you asked. Perry is a typical Texas ex-Democrat Republican. Like other long-term politicians, he has in the past expressed some misguided impulses about the power and potential of government. But, he has been reading up on classical economics and particularly in the past few years, has gotten a gullet-full of intrusive and corruptive federal government and become very focused on Tenth Amendment propriety. Not long ago, he published a book called “Fed Up.” I wouldn’t be disappointed with a Perry nomination, but I’d hope he had a wise and capable Veep and advisors. Read more » Posted under:

As the Republican candidates for president travel to the early primary states, we are hearing a lot about jobs and job creation. This is natural, considering that president Obama is about to give a major speech on jobs before a joint session of Congress, and the unemployment rate is probably the key issue in the presidential campaign.
One does not have to love Rick Perry to know a success story, and let's face it, there are many within the Republican establishment who don’t love Rick Perry. The biggest criticism of Rick Perry is that the Texas economy boomed in spite of Rick Perry. There is a lesson to be learned here, namely, the success of the Texas boom is due to the Texas people and the wisdom of a leader instinctively understanding when to simply allow the market to work and stay out of the way.
In 1980, I voted for Ronald Reagan which proved for me a personal twofer. Not only was Reagan the best vote I ever cast but it allowed me to make up for the worst vote I ever cast, for Jimmy Carter in 1976. I was given a do over and took full advantage of it. For the past three decades, Republicans and conservatives have looked for the next Ronald Reagan but in 1980, Reagan was not quite Reagan.
With family for dinner, I DID manage to watch the Republican debate in Iowa Thursday night. Debates always tie hands of candidates trying to distinguish themselves. Of those on the stage, I was partial to Herman Cain, who was good and straightforward. A question referred to his previous relative unfamiliarity with the jargon of political discussion. He said he has become clear and assured about those matters.
A longtime conservative Christian friend of political organizing in Minnesota, who has authored several books, recently co-authoring three or four on free market health care, inquired of my assessment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Here is my response:
American political consultant and pollster Dr. Frank Luntz gives a post Iowa Presidential Debate opinion to Adryana Boyne. He says that he thinks Mitt Romney was very presidential with the best lines, Tim Pawlenty had the most humor, but was also the most negative. He said that in the end, he believes Romney was the winner because no one knocks him off.
Karl Rove went "On the Record" with Greta Van Susteren to discuss the Republican Presidential Primary. He explains that there is going to be a primary before the primary, wherein Mitt Romney is the frontrunner and the rest of the candidates are vying to be the non-Romney candidate. Currently Michele Bachmann is the frontrunner among non-Romney candidates, but Rove explained that if Rick Perry gets in the race, he could take the lead.
