Addendum to the Autopsy: Team for America

Having finished reading the “Growth and Opportunity Project” report from a blue ribbon panel appointed by Chairman Reince Priebus, it reported seven different areas for improvement in the next campaign cycle. Each area described will likely have appeal to some people. To find your niche to help out, please read the entire report—it’s not that long—located at: growthopp.gop.com/default.aspx and many other sites.

However, I propose an eighth area of improvement. Let me call this the Team for America approach.

Texas Republicans Should Join in Immigration Reform

Co-written by Eduardo Aguirre

Mitt Romney's defeat in the 2012 presidential election has been met by many Republicans as a challenge. If they hope to regain the White House, the party must address important issues for America's rapidly growing Hispanic population. That is particularly true when it comes to immigration matters, where Romney staked positions

January Book Pick: Evan Sayet’s Kindergarden of Eden

The late, great Andrew Breitbart once described comedian Evan Sayet’s 2007 speech at the Heritage Foundation as “one of the five most important conservative speeches ever given”. Five years later that speech (How Modern Liberal’s Think) continues to receive fresh views. Most recently Sayet has taken the meat of that speech and developed and extended the premise into his first book: The Kindergarden of Eden: How the Modern Liberal Thinks.

Texas Republicans Have the Answer!

In June 2012, the largest state Republican convention in the country overwhelmingly approved a sensible immigration plank. It is known as the Texas Solution. Texas Republicans are no longer willing to kick the can down the road. They want Congress to adopt a solution, and they have offered an outline. Now Congress needs to act!   Read more »

Stand or Stand Down? Wrestling With the Future.

It’s taken me a few days to gather my thoughts and regroup after Tuesday’s devastating loss for America. Quite a few questions have been raised after America’s loss to Obama: where does the GOP go from here? Do we need to change our message? Do we need to move left? Do we need to be more conservative? Do we need to form a third party?

These are all valid questions and we will be debating these things for many months and maybe even years to come. One thing is for certain – the America we had hoped still existed does not anymore. We have reached the tipping point. So do we stand or stand down? Honestly, I have been wrestling with that. Here’s what I conclusion I came to:   Read more »

Is Demographics Destiny?

If someone would tell me that Romney would have received, as a percentage, almost as many votes from gay voters as Hispanics or Asian voters, I would say no way. Romney's defeat can be attributed to two things, a massive turnout among minorities and retrenchment among many white voters. Call it the double whammy in which many blue collar whites stayed home and the Democratic base came out in full force.   Read more »

How Could We Lose? But We Did! - Hangover

Tuesday’s presidential election was extremely disappointing and I was stunned as I was not expecting defeat. How could we lose? Obama spent more time on the golf course and traveling than working in the Oval Office. How could we lose? He watched our heroes die in Benghazi and did

What's Next?

The country is split but is also moving left of center. I am not interested in rerunning the campaign and worrying about who is to blame for what strategy. Every campaign makes mistakes, and the campaign takes on the character of the candidate on the top of the ticket. Let's be clear, both candidates set out clear agendas and Obama's agenda of increasing spending, furthering government interventions and crony capitalism won.

Mighty Texas Strike Force Hits the Ground Running in the Battlefield State of Ohio

Saturday night I flew into Cleveland, landing very late. I came as part of the Mighty Texas Strike Force (I just love that name!), to volunteer for the Romney/Ryan campaign by knocking on doors to get out the vote.

I was the lone passenger in the shuttle from the airport to the car rental place, and the driver, a woman likely in her mid 60’s, mentioned that Joe Biden had visited Ohio recently.

Less Than a Week to Go!

The election is one week away. The media is focused on how Hurricane Sandy is going to affect politics, but I cannot get the deeds of two men, named Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, out of my mind.

If you have not heard the names of these two men, I hope to remedy that with this post. Tyrone and Glen were American "contractors" working in Libya the night of September 11th, 2012. Both were former Navy SEALs and they were in Libya working for the CIA, tracking dangerous shoulder-fired surface to air missiles and making sure they did not fall into the wrong hands.
