Overweight Trucks Destroying Texas Roads - Time to put the cost back on them

Allen Fletcher Authors Bill to Stop Overweight Trucks in TexasOverweight dump trucks, garbage haulers and oilfield trucks (just to name a few) are taking roads in Texas that are designed to last 20-30 years are being reduced to rubble and potholes in less than 10. This is causing such a massive problem for Texas and Texans that Gov. Perry called for spending $3.7 billion from the Rainy Day Fund for infrastructure repairs and construction.    Read more »

Addendum to the Autopsy: Team for America

Having finished reading the “Growth and Opportunity Project” report from a blue ribbon panel appointed by Chairman Reince Priebus, it reported seven different areas for improvement in the next campaign cycle. Each area described will likely have appeal to some people. To find your niche to help out, please read the entire report—it’s not that long—located at: growthopp.gop.com/default.aspx and many other sites.

However, I propose an eighth area of improvement. Let me call this the Team for America approach.

Overweight Trucks Causing Massive Problems for Roads and Texas Budget

Texas Roadways Feeling the Crunch of Heavy TrucksDuring Texas Governor Rick Perry's 2013 State of the State Address he said "Texas is stronger than ever." It is too bad the same cannot be said for our roadways that are crumbling under the weight of record numbers of overweight trucks. According to a report from a Washington research organization, The Road Information Report (TRIP), 18% of Texas roads are in poor condition and an additional 27% are in mediocre condition.   Read more »

CPAC 2013 and the Presidential Hopefuls

Fellow TexasGOPVote blogger Tom Donelson recently wrote about some of the CPAC 2013 speakers who stand out as possible 2016 Presidential contenders, listing Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and Rand Paul.

I respectfully add to that list Ted Cruz, Allen West, Governors Scott Walker and Jeb Bush, and a long shot but very popular person, Dr. Ben Carson of Prayer Breakfast fame.

CPAC also featured Texas Governor Rick Perry, whose presence seemed to signal interest in running for President, although he has frequently told audiences

Changes Coming in Education

Last year, I took two courses from Hillsdale College on the Constitution. This course is similar to what many Hillsdale students take, but what intrigued me was not just the course itself, as excellent as it was, but the concept. Hundreds of thousands have taken this course, and Hillsdale showed how they can easily extend their reach while providing an inexpensive education to millions.   Read more »

Hey Californians! Had enough yet? - An Open Letter to Conservative Gun Owners in California

California Gun Bans attack 2nd Amendment - NRA-ILAThis letter is to all of our conservative friends in the formerly great state of California. Have you had enough yet? With new anti-gun legislation, more spending, more taxes, and a nearly bankrupt government that wants to take money from you and give it to people who don't produce... I bet you are fed up, and I don't blame you!

New York recently went off the deep end and passed some of the most restrictive anti-gun legislation in history. Not to be outdone, your California libs are proposing requiring you to purchase insurance for your guns! Many other unconstitutional gun restrictions are being imposed on you this session. Is this the straw that breaks the camel's back for you?   Read more »

Governor Perry: Hey Obama, It Takes a finger to Pull the Trigger of a Gun!

The following is a statement released by Texas Governor Rick Perry in response to Obama’s proposed gun control measures:

The Vice Presidents committee was appointed in response to the tragedy at Newtown, but very few of his recommendations have anything to do with what happened there.

Guns require a finger to pull the trigger. The sad young man who did that in Newtown was clearly haunted by demons and no gun law could have saved the children in Sandy Hook Elementary from his terror.

Qualified School Officials Should be Allowed Concealed Handguns to Protect Kids from Mass Shootings - Texas Governor Perry Supports

The mass shooting/murder today of dozens of kindergarten kids at a Connecticut Elementary School is just one of the many recent school shootings. This event should cause Americans to seriously think about allowing select, qualified school officials to have concealed handguns to protect kids before the police arrive.   Read more »
