If there is one week in my house that is unpleasant, it’s tax week. There is nothing worse than seeing my parents in sweatpants at the kitchen table, hunched over piles of receipts that stand much taller than they should. Recently, owners of KGBC (1540am) in Galveston, TX leased the station’s airtime to one of China’s state-owned media companies, China Radio International (CRI). CRI is the overseas broadcasting arm of the People’s Republic of China and one of the three central medial organizations in China. KGBC began broadcasting from Galveston in 1947, but financial strain caused by low ad revenue in a weak economy and FM dominated music caused the owner, SIGA broadcasting to entertain the lease.
