As many readers of this site know, the presidential primary system in this country routinely disenfranchises primary voters in important “red” states like Texas. In the last cycle, due to a combination of rules and courts, Texas had one of the last primaries and had to allocate delegates proportionally. We saw Herman Cain at the Tampa International Airport yesterday while we were waiting for our luggage. He was surrounded by a group of about 15 people who looked under 30 and all were excited and peppering him with questions. He was smiling and talking and looked happy to be here. The Texas State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) met for our regular quarterly meeting in Austin this weekend. As always, the meeting was open to the public. Any interested party with or without media credentials may attend the meetings.

The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Steve Munisteri has sent an open letter to U.S. Congress Speaker Boehner, expressing Texas’ GOP grassroots’ extreme disappointment with the recent tax-and-spend-but-no-spending-cuts “deal” cut with the White House. He also encourages the GOP Washington leadership to stand stronger against further “fiscal irresponsibility”, referring to the debt ceiling and tax debate starting already.
