Politico Piles On Davis Campaign Woes

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis’ campaign failures appear to be obvious to everyone but Wendy Davis. Even left of center media outlets like Politico are reporting her fall from Democrat rock star to political failure.

“She’s down in the polls by double digits,” Politico’s Katie Glueck reported. “And national Democrats have all but written off her race.” While they tried to couch their comments in the kindest possible terms, anyone reading the article can clearly see their prediction of her looming defeat in November.

Attempting to show Davis’ brave face on the campaign, Politico quoted her saying, “I don’t spend time thinking about whether someone in Washington, D.C. believes that this is a winnable race – I know it is.”

Earlier this month Breitbart Texas reported Davis’ continued slide in the polls and other media outlets’ predictions of her campaign’s demise. Even the left-wing MSNBC called the move of Davis’ campaign restructuring a “last-ditch effort” to turn her campaign around admitting her poll numbers continue to sink.

Politico reported about the overwhelming control Republicans hold on Texas politics and the optimism Democrats had with Davis' early popularity. "For a while," Politico reported, “those dynamics were overshadowed by media hype and will-she or won’t-she speculation about Davis. But in April, months after the initial glow faded, DGA Chair Peter Shumlin, who is also governor of Vermont, acknowledged the challenges Davis faces, and didn’t include the Lone Star State on a list of the group’s top targets for the cycle.”

The sense of denial runs deep with Texas Democrats. Democrat consultant Harold Cook told Politico, “national Democrats signaling they don’t think they have a chance becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If national Democrats want to continue to have a can’t-do attitude, the hell with you, stay out of Texas.”

The Davis campaign may not like the crystal ball of national Democrats, but it certainly likes their money. According to Politico, “Davis has certainly benefited from outside funding — her donors have included movie moguls in Hollywood; and she has returned to D.C. to raise money since last summer.”

The Republican candidate for Governor, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, told Republican supporters at the state party’s convention in Fort Worth earlier this month, “It has been 20 years since a Democrat has won a statewide election in Texas, and by God, we’re not going to let that record be broken this year.”
