Representative Debbie Riddle Update for March

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about some of the things that have been going on during the interim in our community and across our great state of Texas.

Appropriations

Recently, the Appropriations Committee was updated on the state's economy. We heard reports from the Comptroller's office as well as the Legislative Budget Board and the State Auditor's Office. While the national economy is still struggling,

Gunman Kills at Least 2 in Jefferson County Courthouse Shooting in Beaumont, TX

My wife works in downtown Beaumont. She called me and told me that they locked down their building because a gunman was shooting and killing people at the Jefferson County Courthouse close to where she works.

This is what we know so far from local media outlets:

Fatal courthouse shooting suspect was on trial for sexual assault of a child according to Beaumont Enterprise.

Beaumont Enterprise reports than only one person is dead and not 2 as reported by the courthouse bailiffs. Read more about Gunman Kills at Least 2 in Jefferson County Courthouse Shooting in Beaumont, TX

Liberal Hypocrisies

This is a piece of random thoughts where conventional wisdom is turned upside down and corrected. Here is a thought, how many times does the left tells us how much of a failure those Bush tax cuts were? Of course, the job growth that has occurred in the Obama administration arose after the GOP won the House, which thwarted any attempts to raise Bush tax rates. Read more about Liberal Hypocrisies

A Response to Democrats by Latino Republicans

Latino National Republican Coalition of Texas - Having read Rebecca Acuña’s article in the San Antonio Express-News entitled “A response from Democrats to State Rep. John V. Garza” reminded me of why Texas Democrats are out of touch with Latino Voters. Acuña’s outrageous claim that Republicans sought to remove Latinos from House district 117 is typical Democratic fact twisting that they put out in the hope that readers do not research the facts.

Holder blocks Texas ID Voter law

The Constitution does not mandate that all the big decisions will be made by the Courts and bureaucrats and only the inconsequential will be made by the Legislature.

Wonder how many photo ID’s Holder required in the “Operation Gunwalker” he enabled?

Breaking news Monday morning (Texas Tribune here, Washington Post story here) is that the Obama Administration has refused to allow — under the 1965 Voter’s Rights Act – the implementation of the Texas voter ID law passed by our elected Legislature last May! Wallbuilders: Obama is America's Most Biblically Hostile U.S. President

Below is one of the best, in-depth articles I have seen regarding President Obama's hostility toward the Bible and Religion (except for Islam of course). It is from www.WallBuilders.com

By David Barton of Wallbuilders

When one observes President Obama’s unwillingness to accommodate America’s four-century long religious conscience protection through his attempts to require Catholics to go against their own doctrines and beliefs, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Catholic. But that characterization would not be correct. Although he has recently singled out Catholics,

Smith: Don’t Mess With Texas Voter ID Law

Today’s decision by the Justice Department to challenge Texas’ voter ID law is another example of the Obama administration’s abuse of executive authority. The people of Texas overwhelmingly supported the State’s law to require individuals to show official identification documentation, like a driver’s license or passport, before being allowed to vote. Civil Disobedience: The Apathy of the Non-voter Contributes To the Decline of the American Dream

Voting participation in the U.S. is a call for members of society to be engaged and active in their community. Through voting we maintain the structure of American society and our institution of government. And it is through voting, then, that we structure our manifestation of participation and responsibilities for our society and the American political system. It is a right that is specifically granted, by the way of the 14th and 19th Amendment, to all Americans. However, possessing the right does not necessarily mean that people partake in the opportunity.
