A Star is Rising in Northeast Texas

In the far northeast corner of Texas sits Bowie County, named for the famous knife maker Jim Bowie who died serving Texas at the Alamo in 1836. Nestled in this county is the city of Texarkana. The county has a unique distinction in that it has never elected a Republican to countywide office. With an endorsement from former White House Advisor, Dick Morris, that may just be about to change…

Meet Natalie Nichols, candidate for Bowie County Clerk. Nichols, a 33 year old mother of four, is aggressively working for the people of Bowie County to become the first Republican to hold a countywide office. She is seeking the office of County Clerk. Where did she come from and why does she want to serve the people of Bowie County in this important office?

Nichols has not always been politically involved. Like many of us, she bought into the assumption elected officials are there for a reason and will always do their best to represent us. She, and we, naively believed that because Texas is generally a Republican state, and the Republican platform aligns itself with her views, that her lone vote didnt matter. In the 2008 election cycle, Natalie realized the error of her ways. She was inspired by hearing Sarah Palins Vice Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech. It wasnt necessarily the woman speaking, although Natalie is a fan of Palins, but instead it was the idea that there were, in fact, women out there somewhere who held the same beliefs and values that Natalie had and werent apologetic about them. The idea that women like her existed, and that they were proud of their beliefs and were not hiding them, was enough to foster a passion for politics in Natalie that she never expected.

This passion led her to join with other patriots across her community, our state and the entire US. She learned that our government comes from the people and that the people must stand up and take control wherever possible. She learned from the expression Nichols has not always been politically involved. She bought into the assumption that so many hold which says that those who are elected are there for a reason and will always do their best to represent us. She naively believed that because Texas is generally a Republican state, and the Republican platform aligns itself with her views, that her lone vote didnt matter. The idea that women like herself existed, and were proud of their beliefs, not hiding them, was enough to foster a passion for politics in Natalie that she never expected.

The activities of her new found politics led her to a meeting of Americans For Propserity where Dick Morris was speaking on the "November is Coming" tour. Nichols was asked to fill in as a speaker for Houston radio show host, Kevin Price, at the last minute. Morris met her at this meeting and was immediately impressed. After doing some research on her and her county election race, Morris decided to endorse her election. It is a very high honor for her as Morris does not usually make such endorsements in local races.

“Natalie Nichols is one of the rising, young stars in the Republican Party,” said Dick Morris, currently President of Vote.com. “She is struggling to make Bowie County a two-party government with checks and balances. Right now, it is run by the fiat of the Democratic Party organization.” Morris explained, “The Clerks office is the key to releasing the voting records of the Commissioners Court. The current clerk sits on the records and wont release them without a formal request. Natalie, not to be deterred, now videotapes their meetings and posts them on her website for all to see.”

Morris worked as a Republican strategist before serving as a White House Advisor under President Clinton, and is credited for helping President Clinton succeed by convincing the President to adopt Conservative Republican policies. He is an 8 time NYT best-selling author, renowned political strategist, and a regular commentator on Fox News.

“We need the likes of Natalie in politics and, I suspect, the people of Bowie County need her, in particular, as an advocate. They couldnt get a better one," added Morris.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Dick Morris, and am so grateful for his advice and friendship. I was deeply humbled when he wrote to offer the endorsement,” said Nichols. “He is one of the strongest voices in the Conservative movement today. His wisdom and wealth of knowledge is beyond compare. Public Information has been under lock and key in our county for decades. I will give our citizens every opportunity to view our elected officials’ voting records, without having to ask for them. The records in the County Clerk’s office do not belong to the Clerk, they belong to the people.”

All politics are local, someone once said. This is clearly the truth when it comes to the records of a county. Natalie Nichols truly is a rising star, but there are many stars in the heavens. Find your local race that is of significance to your community. Morris is right about Natalie Nichols! Follow Nichols lead and get involved.
