It’s Earth Day! Let’s Chill Out on Global Warming

This is Earth Day in 2014, a day when we recommit to environmental awareness and ongoing protection of the environment.

Today the internet is filled with articles urging people to honor Earth Day by fighting manmade global warming (MGW), or as it was renamed when reality collided with faulty warming predictions, global climate change (GCC).

Alarming warnings of impending doom proliferate. Take this AP report in the Washington Post:

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, …. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

Alarming, until you realize this report was published in 1922—as in, 92 years ago.

Today’s reality check. In April 2014, the Great Lakes are 91% frozen over, the second highest level since measurements began in 1973.

Not even five months ago, an Antarctic expedition determined to prove global warming and the melting of the polar ice cap got stranded in the ice, and a rescue icebreaker ship then also got stuck in the ice.

Arctic ice is expanding. Within the last year scientists reported that 533,000 more square miles of ocean are in the Arctic are covered with ice than at the same time a year earlier. Six years ago the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice–free by the summer of 2013.

No global warming has occurred since early 1997; a fact true believers in GCC have struggled to explain. When the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) was forced to confirm this fact in its September 2013 report, actual scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen, a top MIT professor, described IPCC’s efforts to account for this as “hilariously flawed.”

Lindzen said of the IPCC report:

“In attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about. It is quite amazing to see the contortions the IPCC has to go through in order to keep the international climate agenda going.”

So what’s the point? Actually, there are three.

The climate alarmist true believers are trying to bully real scientists and ordinary citizens into silence using schoolyard level mockery and derision. Al Gore recently likened global warming deniers to slavery and apartheid perpetrators. Scientists fear ridicule and loss of professional stature for even questioning the gospel of GCC. If alarmist climate change believers were sure of their “science” they would have no need to resort to juvenile tirades.

Media and government officials collude to hide from the public facts and data that undermine the alarmist global climate change gospel. The MSM repeatedly reported on the stuck-in-the-ice research ship without mentioning the irony that it was on a mission to research and prove global warming. The AP “obtained documents that show the Obama administration and some European governments pressured UN climate scientists to downplay or even omit data that shows the world hasn’t warmed in over a decade.” And the list goes on.

Last, if the alarmist true believers were merely engaged in a scientific debate club, their extremism would not matter as much. But Al Gore, John Kerry, the IPCC and all other alarmist true believers are advocating immense changes to modern civilized life. They are demanding for the upcoming 2015 climate negotiations a massive transfer of wealth from the developed world to the less developed, instead of lifting the less-developed nations forward and up toward the prosperity and comforts we enjoy in America. Jetting around the world denouncing the burning of fossil fuels is just the tip of the hypocrisy iceberg with the global climate change alarmist crowd.

Climate alarmists have made global climate change into what real scientists call a “non-falsifiable hypothesis,” meaning that everything—cold and heat, floods and drought, wind and calm, etc., etc.—proves climate change. And nothing can disprove it.

The alarmists and their political allies have entered the realm of pure silliness.

Time to chill out on man-made global warming, or, I mean, global climate change theory. Facts matter.
