CPAC-12 It's a Wrap! Part 3

CPAC-12 was an experience I won’t soon forget. Just being among 10,000 people was incredible. I must say that being sick on Friday did dampen my spirits a little, but luckily I was able to watch Saturday’s program on CSPAN. Beverly Nuckols was a great companion as we both can talk about politics forever. I attended as a Blogger and having a Blogger Badge enabled me to get around with my pass to a lot of areas, but not all.

The experience gained is always a plus and listening to speeches by Governor Rick Perry, Senator Marco Rubio, and three of the GOP presidential candidates, Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich were very rewarding. Being in a packed room of over 3,000 enthusiastic like-minded fans gives you ‘surround sound’ and a real sense of how the audience is reacting.

There were, of course, many other Republicans giving speeches, like Governor Mike Huckabee who said in his speech, “We are all Catholics now”, referring to the Obama Health and Human Services mandate. I also heard Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter who swooned over Romney. I actually sat through Speaker John Boehner and Senator Mitch McConnell's speeches, who are not the most exciting personalities.

Andrew Breitbart

Andrew Breitbart and Congressman Steve King delivered their messages with passion and enthusiasm. Breitbart concentrated on the Occupiers and Obama’s radical friends. He said, “Ask not what the candidate can do for you; ask what you can do for the candidate. That is what the Tea Party is.” Andrew said he will vote for our candidate regardless of who he is! He emphasized with great clarity that Barack Obama is a ‘radical’ and that we should not be afraid to say it out loud! He did not hold back in saying that Obama is at WAR with you, us!

Congressman Steve King

King spoke about all the ridiculous regulations that Washington, DC is promulgating and how in spite of his efforts the Liberals continue to pass them. He said that we have become a nation of ‘double flushers with designer plungers’. He related that California has banned Happy Meals, unless it has the right amount of calories and San Francisco prohibits the disparagement of the short, fat, the tall and the skinny, leaving no one to criticize.

Speaking of a bill on educational benefits for our combat wounded veterans, he found that women and minorities were also included. He changed the wording a bit to read ‘anyone but white men’. He wanted to let the Liberals know that the truth should be in black and white, not in their usual politically correct language. He also told us about LA County’s new law prohibiting the throwing of footballs and frisbees on the beach with penalty of jail time. If you end up in jail for disobeying this law, you are given a football to exercise while doing time. Yep, this is what King talked about…the truth about our overloaded regulated system.

I am always in my own trance while photographing and yes, I totally focus and enjoy capturing people at their best or at their worst. I did manage to photograph some supporters of Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. Mitt Romney’s supporters escaped me, but they were present. In fact, Romney won the Straw Poll with 38%, Santorum had 31%, Gingrich came in with 15% and Paul ended up with 12%.

There was a short time on Friday afternoon that the Occupiers came to the front door of the Marriott with their loud voices and signs. The police and security had to be brought in to ‘save’ us from these filthy paid perpetrators. As expected, but still surprised, the police actually threatened the CPAC-12 crowd that had lined the sidewalk to see, film and photograph this ‘event’. We were ordered back into the hotel with threats of arrest if we did not comply! Imagine that!

No, I did not receive the Blogger of the Year Award…Thanks to all those that sent such kind words about me. Will I ever go back? Thank goodness that memory does fade…maybe!
